TITLE: Study on the Need of Innovation in the Service Sectors with
Reference to Aviation Sector.

INTRODUCTION: Service Sector of Indian Economy contributes to around


55 percent of India's GDP during 2006-07. This sector plays a leading role in the
economy of India, and contributes to around 68.6 percent of the overall average
growth in GDP between 2002-03 and 2006-07.

There has been a 9.4 percent growth in the Indian economy during 2006-07 as
against a rise of 9 percent in the same during 2006-06. During this growth in Indian
economy, the service sector witnessed a rise of 11 percent in the year 2006-07
against the 9.8 percent growth in 2005-06. The service sectors of Indian economy
that have grown faster than the economy are as follows:

• Information Technology (the most leading service sectors in Indian


economy)
• IT-enabled services (ITeS)
• Telecommunications
• Financial Services
• Community Services
• Hotels and Restaurants
• Transportation (Rail, Road, Air)

The Aviation Sector: Revolutionized by liberalization, the aviation


sector in India has been marked by fast-paced change in the past few
years. From being a service that few could afford, the sector has now
graduated to being a fiercely competitive industry with the presence of
a number of private and public airlines and several consumer-oriented
offerings.

The promise and the potential of the Indian aviation market are
awesome. Over 135 aircraft have been added in the last two years
alone. By 2010, India's fleet strength will stand at 500-550.

Economic Survey 2006-07 says:


The years 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 have been years of record
growth in air traffic in India. During the period April-September, 2006,
international and domestic passengers recorded growth of 15.8 per
cent and 44.6 per cent, respectively, leading to an overall growth of
35.5 per cent. During the same period, international and domestic
cargo recorded growth of 13.8 per cent and 8.7 per cent, respectively,
resulting in an overall growth of 12.0 per cent.

Problem Definition: To study the aviation sector & to find out


the area of aviation sector that needs innovation.

Research Objectives:

• To study the aviation sector & the contribution of the major


airlines.
• To find the areas that are hampering the growth &
development.
• To find out the need of innovation in the aviation sector.
• To find out innovative ways to strengthen the weak areas
of the sector.

Need Of Study: To find out the importance of this sector to


the economy. To find out the problem areas & to find out the
need of innovation in the aviation sector.
