Judged Art Competition and Exhibit
Judge:  Linda Luise Brown 
Linda Luise Brown is a painter, writer and teacher, with over twenty‐five 
years experience as a professional artist. Her list of national and regional 
exhibitions  is  extensive,  with  work  in  collections  across  the  nation, 
including Bank of America, the Federal Reserve Bank, and IBM. In 1984 
she  was  honored  with  a  Fellowship  at  the  internationally  renowned 
MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire. 
Over the last two decades, Brown has taught drawing, design, art history 
and art criticism in the Dallas Community College system, the Univ. of 
Ok, CPCC, UNC Charlotte, and Winthrop Univ. in SC.  In March 2006, 
Brown completed an 18‐month Affiliate Artist‐in‐residence at the McColl 
Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC.    
As a writer, Brown has written art criticism for local, regional and national 
art magazines for many years, and has co‐authored Design First: Design‐
based Urban Planning for Communities, with her husband, architect David 
Walters,  (published  in  2004  by  The  Architectural  Press  in  Oxford, 
England.)

SPECIFICATIONS: Two-dimensional work is restricted to 48" by 48" including I have read, understand, and agree with all terms and
frame. Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel), drawing, sculpture, requirements as stated in the prospectus
jewelry, printmaking, photography and fiber are eligible. All work must be
original, completed within the last two years. Works on paper (inc. photo.) Signature: ______________________________________
must be protected by glass or Plexiglas and framed. All work must be properly
framed or gallery wrapped (sides properly finished), and wired for hanging.
Mats must be neat and clean. The following will NOT be accepted: wet paint Entry # filled out by SASi
or inks, classroom work, duplicates, giclees or copies. Unacceptable framing Entry #___
includes: clip frames, saw-tooth hangers, staples or tape.
Three-dimensional work is limited to 2'x2' of floor space, less than 6' tall and Title ___________________________________________
weigh less than 150 lbs. Three-D work must sit solidly on a flat surface or be
properly mounted for hanging. All work must be presented in a professional Medium _________________________ Price _________
manner. Inadequately prepared work will not be considered for exhibit.
PICK UP OF ART: Artwork must be picked up on the scheduled date. Artwork Entry #___
left beyond 30 days will become property of Southern Arts Society.

LIABILITY: The ARTIST’S insurance must cover their artwork while on
premises. Southern Arts Society reserves the right to decline any works that
do not meet our standards or specifications and to withdraw any work from the Medium _________________________ Price _________

photograph and reproduce any entry submitted for educational or publicity Entry #___
