Cautions
Please read the following proceedings with caution before installing and using RC954 series devices and
operate follow the instructions in this manual strictly. Raisecom will not take any responsibility for the loss
caused by violation of the proceedings listed below.
The installing, maintaining, plugging in and pulling out of any components can only be
operated by qualified technician following static electricity resistance procedures. The power
supply should be grounded.
Please install the device in a temperature and humidity controllable room. Please be aware of
the conductivity of the materials around the device.
Please avoid acute shake and collision to protect fine parts in the device. Please do not
disassemble or repair the device by yourself, for this may cause unrecoverable damage to the
device. Raisecom will regard any self-conducted disassembly of the device as
abandon of warranty.

Chapter 1 Overview
RC954 series products are E1 protocol converters with inverse multiplexer function. They are designed to
be applied to RC002 chassis of Raisecom. RC954 series products are equipped with 1 or 2 user Ethernet
interfaces and 4 or 8 E1 interfaces. They are mainly used to transmit or receive Ethernet operations with
band width range from 2Mbps to 16Mbps.
Explanation:
RC954: E1 protocol converters with inverse multiplexer function which are designed for RC002 series
chassis.
A: FE type and the number of E1 interface, could be FE4E1, FX4E1, 2FE4E1, 2FE8E1
B: E1 interface type. BL indicates that the interface is a balanced interface. No specification of this term
indicates that the interface is unbalanced or the type can be selected using dip switch.
C: Ethernet optical interface type. Only applicable to Ethernet optical interface, could be M, S1, S2, S3,
SS13, SS15, SS23, SS25, S15, and etc.
[1] For multi mode optical emitter, both wavelength 850nm and 1310nm are available. The default wavelength is
1310nm. 850nm multi mode optical emitter will only be made to order.
For detailed available product list, please refer to product ordering information.
RC954-FE/FX4E1, RC954-2FE4E1-BL, RC954-2FE8E1-BL: occupies two slots (one for master card, the
other for E1 interface sub card), 50.5nm(Width) × 91mm(Height) × 172mm(Depth)

As is shown in the figure above, place a RC953-FE4E1 at the access node of user branch, place a RC954-FE4E1 at user center,
and transmit service from each branch access node to user center, a service channel with capability of 2M~8M will be
established between user center and each branch access node.
As is shown in the figure above, place RC5/6 series media converter at the access node of user branch, place RC954-FX4E1 at
user access node in the carrier’s computer room, place RC954-FX4E1 at user centre, and transmit services from each branch
access node to user center, a service channel with capability of 2M~8M will be established between user center and each branch
access node.

Chapter 5 Installation and Testing
5.1 Cautions
Firstly, please check the model and the number of the device and spare parts according to the packing list.
Please be sure that the appearance of the device is intact. If there is any evidence that the device has been
affected by damp, please dry it before installation.
To insure that the device can operate properly, please install and setup the device follow the steps listed
below:
Note: The setting of Master/Slave management mode and E1 channel startup will be obedient to the status
of the corresponding dip switch when the device is being electrified. Any operation to these two dip
switches is invalid afterward. Other dip switches are valid for operating after electrifying.
For device with Ethernet optical interface, connect one end of the fiber to the Ethernet optical interface, and
connect the other end of the fiber to router or Ethernet switch.
For device with balanced E1 interface, apply cable with two RJ-45 connectors and two E1 link to connect.
5.2.4 Electrify
After turn on the power, the PWR indicator should be on. At the same time, please check the Ethernet
interface indicator and E1 interface indicator, they should be working in order. (For the meanings of the
indicators, please refer to the indicator definition in chapter 3)

Chapter 6 Troubleshooting
For some problems you may meet during installation and operation, please try to solve them following the
suggestions below. For the problems can not be solved using the following suggestions, please contact with
distributors for technical support.
¾ PWR indicator wouldn’t turn on after power supply has been connected.
Firstly, please check whether the device has been plugged in properly.
Then, please make sure that power supply of the chassis is working properly.

Using 120Ω balanced interface to connect to other device, please be clear of the pin definition of the device. For twisted
pair, the connecting rule of pins on the two ends is shown in the figure below:
Please note that when connecting twisted pairs, please connect the two from TD+ and TD- that are twisted together. The
same rule applies to RD+ and RD-.
