Here’s a question for you: Are you a
realist or an idealist? I think this quote by
Shaw really gets at the divide between
someone who is a realist, and someone who
is an idealist. I have friends who seem to be
idealists, but I think I am becoming the
former. My questions these days seem to be
full of “whys.”
Why are there natural disasters and
nuclear accidents? Why is there endless war
and violence? Why do leaders murder and
enslave their own people? Why does the
vast, growing gap between the “have’s” and
the “have not’s” in this world seem to go
mostly unchallenged? Why is seeking the
common good not the highest moral
imperative in any society?
These are things that I “see” - “things as
they are” in our time and place (and it seems
throughout time). And I have to assume that
I am not the only one to ask “why?” My
realism has me in its grip. I WANT to be an
idealist. But I can’t seem to help asking
“why?”
Perhaps I do have something to be an
idealist about – this thing we call faith.
During our Wednesday night Lenten services
some of our members have been telling their
stories of faith. And stories of faith do often
contain the question “why?” For our faith to be faith, it
must be part of our “real” lives, as well as our “ideal”
lives. Paul knew this when he wrote to the church in
I Rome, proclaiming to them that whatever happens,
they belong to the Lord. You do too.
In Romans 14:8 Paul said:

We will not have Sunday school on Easter Day.
April 17th the youth will walk to the Nursing Home to
sing & visit residents. Please have your Youth bring an
umbrella if the weather looks rainy.
We still have DVD’s of the Christmas Program. They
are awesome! Please contact Cindy Wilson if you
would like a keepsake of this great program! Suggested
$5 donation.

The Youth will be putting on a “Youth Sunrise Service” on
Easter morning at 6:30am. I will be contacting many Youth
to help with this great celebration on Easter morning. We
will need many readers, special music, ushers, & greeters
for this service. If you are interested in helping & haven’t
been contacted, please call or e-mail Cindy. We will also
need Youth to help with the fabulous Easter Breakfast right
after the service at 7am.

We will have a fun “Camp Sunday” at Sunday school on
April 10th. All the youth are invited to wear camp clothes to
church. We will have different activities held during our
Sunday school hour!

We are in the beginning stages of
creating a “URLC Youth Recipe
Book!” We would like our Sunday
School Youth to bring in any of their
favorite recipes! Please list your
name by your recipe. These books
will be in the making all summer for
a great Sunday School fundraiser. They will be ready for
wonderful 2011 Christmas presents!

“AMBS” Am Bible Study meets at URLC in the reception
hall for any Confirmation Age Youth & above! This is at
7am each Wed. with a delicious Breakfast made by our
Youth Director, Cindy!!

30 H OUR F AMINE
On Fri. April 29 we will have the 30 hr. Famine here at
URLC. This is 30hrs of only drinking fluids to get a taste
of what it is like for the starving people in our world. The
fasting starts right after lunchtime at school Fri. Youth
will then come to the church for night of fasting,
activities, movies, games, car wash, & collecting for food
shelf. We will build our tents to sleep in out of
cardboard in the fellowship hall. Please sign up with
Cindy if you are interested in joining the 30hr. Famine.

On May 1st we will have our “Sundae Sunday”
celebration at PACE with all the Sunday school youth &
congregation, to end our Sunday school year! We will
hear the Sunday school sing, & have ice cream treats!
