UTPC @ FICCI Higher Education Summit 2010
University Training and Placement Center (UTPC) of Shobhit University participated
in the FICCI Higher Education Summit 2010 on Nov 11 & 12, 2010 at New Delhi. The
objective was to understand the perspective of both the academia and the industry.
However, more importantly, participation in the exhibition facilitated to bring out our
view point in the context of the Industry Engagement Initiative of Shobhit University.
As pioneers in offering a full semester internship to our B.Tech. students, our
message to one and sundry was loud and clear. “An Internship is a wonderful and
effective way to connect the acquired basic and core skills and academic knowledge
by budding Engineers in the University and within the professional work arena in the
industry. In this process both the industry and interns are mutually benefited. On part
of the industry it would significantly slash down the expenses to be incurred on talent
hunt exercise and training of new recruits, whereas the interns would get an
opportunity to further increase their potential and skills required for enhancing
employability”. Mr. David Willets, Minister of State for Universities & Science,
UK and Dr. John DeGioia, President, Georgetown University, USA during an
informal discussion with Prof. Anoop Swarup, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Abhay
Kumar, Chairperson, UTPC lauded the Industrial Engagement Initiative of Shobhit
University. Mr. Rajan Bharti Mittal, President FICCI quoted that the innovative idea of
the release of Industry Engagement Initiative Brochure at the summit would
definitely become the biggest “game changer”.

Placement @ Campus
The Training and Placement Centre at Shobhit University was abuzz with flurry of
activities in the last few months. The activities started with the formation of a team
drawing co-ordinators from all the Schools and Centres. The team was blessed with
guidance from the senior management including the Vice-Chancellor and
Pro-Chancellor. A strategic plan was worked out for internships of B.Tech. final year
students with an objective of “empowering the nation by bridging the gap between
industry and academia by way of internships”.
Workshops and Lectures:
The Finishing School arranged for a screening test to acquaint students about their
general ability. Sessions were conducted with CDs and DVDs from the British Council
library.
The Open Source Learning Centre organized sessions on following topics:
? Politics and Marketing by Al & Laura Ries.
? Developing & Implementing Service Level Agreement (Part I) by Victor Homen.
? Developing & Implementing Service Level Agreement (Part II) by Victor Homen.
? Career Development and Management by Ms. Inn.
