School Administration Duty
March 4, 2009

This is the first day of my duty as Dean. I was assigned to have the afternoon duty
by Dr. Agaton Manuel GerardoT. Alzate, Dean of the College of Nursing and Graduate
Studies here in Central Luzon Doctor’s Hospital Educational Institution.

At first, I was so afraid that I may not be able to do the tasks that will be assigned
to me. My fears were wash-off when Alzate told me to just relax and have fun. I was
assigned to do encoding of the scores of the different examination of his students. For
me, it was not a heavy task, for I really love encoding stuffs in the computer.

In my few hours in the dean’s office, I found out that the job of a dean was not
really easy. So many persons, students, clinical instructors or other staff and visitors, with
different concerns come and go. Being an acting Dean, every time that there are persons
looking for him, I’m the one who is supposed to entertain them.

The day was spend wisely and enjoyable. My fears were all thrown away. In my
stay, it also gave me a clear view how a dean’s work really is. I know it’s a big
responsibility to handle an institution. But the great thing is, you have the chance to
manage and meet different people and even touched their lives.

March 5, 2009

This is the 2nd day, we are many who are having the duty. I was still assigned in
Dr. Alzate’s office while some of my classmates were assign to assist the secretary of the
Dean and with Ma’am Evelyn Basco, MSN Coordinator. My task for today is to still do
the encoding of the scores of the examinations. I also did organize the files of the
different grades of students.

In the afternoon, my classmates and I took pictures and organize some of the test
papers in the office. I enjoyed this day, for I have the chance to be with my classmates
again and of course, as they say…the more the merrier.
March 9, 2009

This is the 3rd day, the usual things and task of encoding grades were assigned to
me by Dean Alzate. I also did editing and printing out of some paper works.

My other classmates were also assigned to their usual post. After our task, we
were told to go to the Registrar’s Office to help there. The tasks there were not so hard to
do for we are really into it and we are very cooperative with one another. The work was
done fast and what we did again, is to take pictures for the journal.

We really had fun doing the assigned tasks to us. Plus, all the staffs of the
institution were all kind and hospitable to us who are having the OJT.

March 10, 2009

My fourth day of duty, I was still assigned to do some paper works in the office. I
also did some power point presentation for the lectures of Dean Alzate. This day, we had
the time to chat with each other. Dr. Alzate shared some of his experiences in his work,
the life and the different ordeal of being a dean.

Truly having my duty under his supervision was really educational and enjoyable.
Doc was fun to be with. He has so many things to teach and to share. Despite of the big
responsibility, you will still see him with a big smile to cheer your day.

March 12, 2009

The fifth day of duty, I still did the encoding of grades and some of the lectures of
Dean Alzate. On this day, I saw how a leader should do when there are conflicts with the
people under his supervision. In respect to Dean and the persons involve, I went out the
office to give them space and privacy, for them to have a closed door talk.

After the talk with the persons involved, Dean called me and I continued my
work. Dean then gave me tips on how to handle conflicts and how to view different sides
of it.

My duty ended with fruitful things and experiences. Thanks to Dean Alzate, I
gained lots experiences and knowledge with regards to academe administration.

March 13, 2009

My last day of duty. I finished all the tasks of encoding and printing out some
papers and forms. We also did the planning of our thanksgiving party for the institution
and for our instructors. The duty ended with the smile on every other’s face…
Rural Health Duty
March 30, 2009

This is the first day of my OJT in the Rural Health unit of San Manuel Health
Center headed by Dr. Jylele S. Sison. I’m not new to the unit for I did handle students
before here in their community exposure. This is why, the orientation which is
supposedly long and formal turned out to be a casual talk only. But, the excitement of
having the duty is still there.

I did the routine activities, like admitting patients, taking their vital signs and
endorsing them for consultation to Dr. Sison.

In the afternoon, we fixed some old logbooks and did some paper works. Dr.
Sison told me that the coming Friday will be a busy one. This is for the reason that the
Municipality of Tarlac headed by Mayor Aro Mendoza will have a medical mission
which will be held in the Tarlac Plazuela. This will be joined by the all RHUs in Tarlac
and some volunteer medical groups. I volunteered to join the mission, luckily Dr. Sison
agreed and allowed me to join them.

March 31, 2009

The second day, I was early for the duty. There were no patients yet. That’s why I
made myself helpful in cleaning the unit and putting stocks and supplies in opur little
emergency room. It took a while for the patients to arrive.

When the patients came for the consultation, I did get their vital signs and
interviewed them for the check-up. The interview was not so long and detailed for each
patient for it is a direct to the point talk and assessment. Unlike what we have in the
hospital that there are so many paper work to do and forms to be filled-up. The hard part
only is the finding of the patient’s record. For some folders were missing and misplaced.
Some were badly damaged due to the full-packed files in the cabinets because of the old
record materials. Some patients even forgot their record number, which made the process
of finding much longer.

After the preparation for consultation, we just waited for Dr. Sison to come…the
duty was not that tiring…to sum it up…it’s all in a day’s work…
April 1, 2009

This is said to be the toxic and the noisiest day of the week in the RHU. This is
the day for vaccines. As expected, many mothers and children were in the area. This is
my favorite day in having my duty in the area, even when I’m handling students, for this
is the time to take the shots!...

I did give some medicines and helped in the weighing of children of all ages and
got their vital signs. As always, morning duty is the busiest part of the day.

In the afternoon, no patients came. We had the time to do some paper works, like
filing, encoding and updating some records. Dr. Sison told me that we will be calling
some officers for the said medical mission. We did communicate with them so that we
will know what will be our functions and roles there.

I was so thrilled when we were assigned to the group who will do circumcision.
This is for the reason, that this will be my first time to be assigned to such procedure…
this will be another chapter of my life as a nurse…

April 2, 2009

My fourth day was spending mostly on doing some paper filings and the usual
duty for consultation. I’m supposed to be out in the RHU to assist midwife who will be
following up a certain patient. But, I was not allowed for there will be only few staff who
will be left behind in the unit. I just made myself busy in updating some records and
checking for stocks and supplies in the unit such as the medications and the vaccines.

April 3, 2009

The last day of my duty in the RHU of San Manuel. But this day is a special one.
I had my duty in Tarlac Plazuela and been a part of a medical mission headed by the City
Government of Tarlac and Mayor Aro Mendoza.

I was so excited that time. I assisted Dr. Sison in doing the circumcision. I also
did get some stocks and supplies, administered anesthesia, do the skin preparation before
the procedure and the dressing after. We even got the chance to be interviewed in the
local radio station of Tarlac about the medical mission. We also met the other staffs of
the other RHUs here in the province.

This was really the best thing that happened in my duty in the RHU! Plus, also not
forgetting the bonding with the staff and lessons I learned in the whole week…
Hospital Administration Duty
April 20, 2009

The first day of duty as a chief nurse here in CLDH. At first, I’m so worried that I
may not do the functions and tasks that are assigned to me. My duty started with the
orientation with Ma’am Shiela Lozano, the chief nurse of CLDH. She gave me an
overview of the different roles and responsibilities of the chief nurse. At first, I was
overwhelmed whit the big part that the leader should do, especially that the hospital is
catering with lives.

After the orientation, I was accompanied with Ma’am Shiela with the tour and
rounds with the different wards and units of the institution. Honestly, I miss the duty and
life of a staff nurse, especially that this is considered as my home. For my first work
experience was here. The faces of old friends I knew gave me a boost of courage for my
OJT.

The duty was spent with lots of activities like orientation with the different
functions of people involving the institution, the different programs concerned with the
institution.

April 21, 2009

I was early for my duty. While waiting for Ma’am Shiela, I went with the rounds
of the charge nurse, Sir Gary. It was for seeing the institution again. After which I had my
duty in Saint Joseph and Saint Anne. I helped the nurses on duty. I also went to the
nursing service office for my duty with Ma’am Shiela.

On this day, I read the manual of the DOH. I also did some paper works and I
helped in the making of the schedules of personnel. Ma’am Shiela also shared some of
her experiences as a chief nurse. Spending time with her makes my OJT complete and
enjoyable.

April 22, 2009

My third day started with the rounds on the whole institution. I also helped in the
checking and follow-up of the different special procedures for the day. After which, I
helped in the filing of some leave forms and checking of some leave and absences of the
personnel of the institution. In the afternoon, I just followed-up with the special
procedures for the afternoon shift. I went with the rounds again. This day was a bit tiring
but more works were accomplished.
April 23, 2009

On this day, after the rounds and follow-up on the special procedures, I did some
typing and encoding. I also helped in the upcoming IV Therapy Training which will be
held in CLDH. I helped with the preparations like filing-up some forms and even
contacting some participants. This days activities are that continuing education is really
important for staff nurse and doing different programs like this requires the help of many
people.

This day, I also had a chance to have a talk with Ma’am Shiela. She gave me
some tips on how to become a good and effective leader.

April 24, 2009

My last day of OJT. This day, I lend a helping hand in polishing some paper
works and forms. Ma’am Shiela and I had more talk today. She showed more things
about being a leader and we even had the chance to talk about personal things.

In the afternoon, I went with the rounds and helped in some wards with NOD’s
meds assistance. At the end of the duty, I had the chance to thank Ma’am Shiela and all
the staff I’ve been with. Truly, my duty in the hospital gave me an eye opener on the big
responsibilities of a chief nurse. It is very sensitive, crucial but still enjoyable especially
if you are really dedicated to your work and have the heart of a caring nurse.

As I end my day here, I can say that Ma’am Shiela is a good and responsible
leader. If I were ever had the chance to be a chief nurse, I will really make Ma’am Shiela
as my role model and inspiration.
