Scholarship Funding
Scholarship opportunities at SNU are divided into five categories: SNU tuition Scholarship,
Scholarships affiliated with the OIA, Scholarships affiliated with the departments, Korean
Government Scholarship and others.
Before applying for scholarships, read the eligibility criteria thoroughly and visit each website.
Detailed application period will be posted on the bulletin board of each website.

Undergraduate Scholarship for Incoming Freshman Students

• SNU New Undergraduate Freshman Scholarship


1. Requirements and Qualifications
- Newly admitted International Undergraduate Freshman Students for the Spring Semester
(March) 2011.
2. Application Process
- No application is necessary, as an internal selection process will be used.
3. Number of Beneficiary
- To be announced (Refer to the Admissions Result Screen for a note regarding the SNU New
Undergraduate Freshman Scholarship recipient selection result)
4. Benefits
- Full scholarship towards first semester’s tuition.

• Glo-Harmony Scholarship
1. Eligibility
-Undergraduate freshmen from OECD/DAC recipient countries
2. Application
- When students’ admission is confirmed, the screening committee will select eligible candidates
- Students cannot apply for the scholarship directly
3. Number of Beneficiary
- To be announced
4. Benefits
- Full tuition fee for 8 semesters
- Monthly stipend of maximum 610,000 KRW
- Airfare reimbursement of maximum 1,000,000 KRW
- Priority on campus accommodation
- Matched with a campus mentor (guardian)

• Hansae Scholarship
1. Eligibility
- Undergraduate students whose nationality is Vietnamese, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand,
Cambodia
- Must be proficient in Korean
2. Application
- Application notice will be announced in March and September every year

- Scholarship of 2,000,000 KRW per semester

• Korean Government Scholarship Program


1. Eligibility
- Candidates must be selected and recommended by the Korean Embassy or Consulate of
residing country to the National Institute for International Education (NIIED)
2. Application
- Apply through the Korean Embassy or Consulate of residing country
3. Number of Beneficiary
- To be announced
4. Benefits
- Common benefits:
√ Monthly stipend of 800,000 KRW for undergraduate students; monthly stipend of 900,000
KRW for graduate students
√ Medical Insurance
√ A returning air ticket
√ Priority on campus accommodation
- Benefits for Undergraduate Students:
√ Full tuition fee
√ Departure fee: 100,000 KRW
- Benefits for Graduate Students:
√ Full tuition fee for general graduate schools; partial tuition fee for specialized graduate schools
(eg. MBA, Law School, Medical School)
√ Departure fee: 100,000 KRW
√ Research fee: 210,000 KRW for humanities; 240,000 KRW for science and engineering
√ Thesis publication fee: maximum of 500,000 KRW

• Overseas Korean Foundation Scholarship


1. Eligibility
- Must be overseas Korean receiving an education in Korea
- Must have a GPA of 3.3 or above
- For one academic year only. Scholarship holders may reapply in succeeding years for
additional support
2. Application
- Application notice will be announced in every April
3. Number of Beneficiary
- Maximum 10 candidates per year

- Scholarship of 4,000,000 KRW per year

1. Eligibility
- International students whose average GPA is B+ or above

• Daewoong Fellowship
1. Eligibility
- Undergraduate and graduate students whose nationality is China, Vietnam, Philippines,
Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, India, Middle East countries or CIS countries

Incoming Graduate Student Scholarship

• Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)


1. Eligibility
- Graduate students from selective Asian countries (eligible nationality may vary each year)
2. Application
- Apply together with international student admission (2 times / year)
3. Number of Beneficiary

4. Benefits
- Full tuition fee for 4 semesters
- Monthly stipend of 0 ~ 900,000 KRW depending on the major
- Priority on campus accommodation

• Silk-Road Scholarship
1. Eligibility
- Graduate students from Silk-road countries (Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia,
Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Russia)
- Applicants must be majoring in humanities or social sciences
2. Application
- Apply together with international student admission for Fall semester each year
3. Number of Beneficiary
- 5 students per year
4. Benefits
- Full tuition fee for 4 semesters
- Monthly stipend of 600,000 KRW
- Airfare reimbursement of maximum 1,000,000 KRW
- Tuition fee for Korean Language Program (for 2 sessions only)

1. Eligibility
- Successful MA applicants at GSIS
- Candidates’ nationality must be Turkey, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan or Indonesia (Parents’
nationality must not be Korean)

- Apply together with international student admission for Spring semester each year
3. Number of Beneficiary
- 5 candidates per year

- Full tuition fee for 4 semesters

- Successful MA applicants at Department of Electrical Engineering
- Candidates’ nationality must be Russia, India, China, America or Western European countries

- Must pass an interview with the screening committee

- 10 candidates per year

1. Eligibility
- Successful graduate applicant whose major is Korea-related studies
- Must be under 35 years old international student
