Welcome to the School of Maritime Management, Indian Maritime University, Chennai.


Present World economy has heralded many challenges and has impacted the way in which the
organizations need to perform. Businesses have gone global and to meet the competition they
must focus on human resource which is the key to success.
The objective of the school is to prepare the students to meet the business challenges and to
transform them as business leaders. It provides a combination of classroom teaching and field
visits to the industries. The program is oriented to give the students not only professional skills to
manage an organization but also the abilities to serve the society at large.
The Board of Studies of the School has drawn out the Curriculum to meet these objectives and
needs of the industries. There are two MBA programmes viz., Port and Shipping Management and
International Transportation and Logistics Management.
The faculty members of the programmes have expertise in various disciplines viz., Logistics, Port
and Terminal Management, Finance, Law, Communications, Strategic Management, Managerial
Economics etc. Their professional experience will enrich the students and mould them as business
managers. The students will be guided to think critically, evaluate, analyze and develop multiple
solutions to various business problems. A combination of lectures with case studies, group
discussions, and projects will be used to sharpen their skills.
The University is building up a good University- Industry relationship which will be channeled to
bring closer interaction of students with the real world. It will be supplemented with guest lecturers
from persons of repute from various industries.
