Organizing Committee Mayor Cory A. Booker has established the GoNewark Local
Organizing Committee (GNLOC) composed of local business
and community leaders and government officials to coordinate
events and provide residents and out of state fans information,
services and activities

NCAA in Newark Newark is the only new city, and the Prudential Center the only
new venue, to host an NCAA Regional Tournament in 2011

Four Regionals East: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey, Host: Seton
Hall
Southeast: New Orleans Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana,
Host: Tulane University
West: Honda Center, Anaheim, California, Host: Big West
Conference
Southwest: Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, Host: UTSA

Role of Seton Hall Official host university for the NCAA Tournament in Newark

Attendance Fans from across the country; 55,000 attendees over 3 games
at Pru Center; expected to fill as many as 5,200 hotel rooms in
the Greater Newark area

Free Shuttle A free shuttle system will be added to bring fans from area
hotels into the Downtown, and into Ironbound and Halsey
Street areas

Volunteers City of Newark/Brick City SERVES and The Governor’s Office


of Volunteerism will team to recruit and train 1,000 volunteers

Volunteer Assignments • Greeters at transportation hubs


• Street teams to direct visitors/distribute maps and
guides
• Concierge teams to staff visitor info tables at area
hotels

Thursday, March 24
12 Noon – 4pm NCAA OPEN PRACTICE DAY at Prudential Center - Students
from across New Jersey are invited to attend. Community
members encouraged to attend. Open to the public and free
of charge.

5:00 - 9:00 pm FANFEST – A free festival to take place at Championship


Plaza adjacent to the Prudential Center with a variety of family-
oriented, basketball-themed and entertainment activities to be
announced soon. Open to the public and free of charge.

Friday, March 25

12 Noon - 9:00 pm FANFEST, Championship Plaza Open to the public and free

attractions invite visitors to experience Newark. Downtown


 

streets will come alive in a lively “block party” atmosphere,


featuring Halsey Street and the famous Ironbound restaurant
district. Open to the public and free of charge.
