Youth News
March was a wonderful month for our 7th- Release Time Volunteers
12th grade Youth Group, as we brought a group of
nine out to the Big Splash Water park for a Day of
fun! It was a wonderful time had by all who were 4/6 Betty DeClercq
in attendance, and I think really helped to bring
our group together in some concrete ways. We
spent time with trivia about our own lives, and
learned quite a lot about each other! In April, we 4/13 No Release Time
won’t be having an official event, but will be en-
couraging participation in our Lenten and Holy
Week services. 4/20 Jan Vipond

Release time for the 5th-6th graders has also 4/27 NO Release Time
been going very well. This year’s group is a bit
smaller then last years, but the kids are very much
engaged with the stories that we cover in that
worthwhile ministry. The Volunteer leaders who
have stepped up this year have been amazing, and
their presence has greatly improved release time

Stewardship of the Good News
A lot of people say that the reason they don’t come to church is because it’s full of hypocrites. If I’m
honest, I agree. Often, we say one thing and do another.
We talk about justice for the oppressed and yet ignore the man who holds a cardboard sign and shun
those who are spending the night in the mission. We talk about love and yet we don’t know our
neighbor’s names or get to know strangers in our midst. We talk about forgiveness and grace and mercy
and yet we hold grudges, harbor bitterness and pass judgments about those we see. We know what is sin-
ful and yet sometimes we commit those very sins.
Paul put it this way, ―I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it.
Instead, I do what I hate!‖ (Romans 7:15). PAUL was a hypocrite! He said one thing and even though he
wanted to do the right thing, he still caught himself doing the wrong thing. He cries out, ―Wretched man
that I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!!!
...for God has done what the law... could not do; by sending his own Son... as an offering for
sin‖ (Romans 7:24-8:4).
Welcome to whole point of Easter! We could not keep God’s commands, nor could we save ourselves,
so God did what only God could do – sent his Son as a sacrifice for our penalty of sin. Through his death,
our sins are forgiven; through his rising, we have new and everlasting life.
That’s not to say that life is perfect from here on out. Paul still sinned. We still sin. Our priorities will
still get mixed up, we will still gossip, we will still act in anger, we will still suffer the consequences of our
own and others’ sins. We (and everyone else on the planet) will still be hypocrites – we are not perfect.
But we don’t have to be. Easter is not about making us perfect – Easter is about fixing what was bro-
ken: our relationship with God. With sin forgiven, there is nothing standing between us and our God.
That is part of the reason that the church exists. It is a gathering place for hypocrites to lay down their
sin, ask for forgiveness and find a fresh start. It’s a place where we can be honest with ourselves and with
God and then leave renewed and ready for life!! We are set free from our sin to follow God and love all
others.
So thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord, you and I are forgiven.
HAPPY EASTER!
~Pastor Matthew
I will be participating in the Race for the Cure at the Mall of America on
May 8th, 2011, by walking the 5k with family and friends. I recently
finished treatment for breast cancer myself, and would like to help with
the cause. You are welcome to join our team, Team Judy, and walk with us
(contact me for more info).

We are also raising money for Susan G. Komen and invite you to help by
making a contribution! If you would like to, please use the link in this
email to donate online quickly & securely. You will receive email
confirmation of your donation and I will be notified as soon as you make
your donation. I thank you in advance for your support, and really
appreciate your generosity!

http://www.active.com/donate/komentc11/JOlson345
Or, go to www.komenminnesota.org, choose "donate to a team," and search on
"Team Judy." You can also follow the same path and choose "join a team" to
walk with us.

Your donations make a difference right here in Minnesota. In fact, 75% of

the donations received are awarded to Minnesota non-profit organizations
that support breast cancer patients and breast health initiatives.
Twenty-five percent of the donations received are sent to the National
Research Grants Program to fund groundbreaking research dedicated solely
to breast cancer.

Please tell as many people as you can to encourage them to donate to a great cause!

Thanks for all the support you gave me during chemo and radiation treatments!
It meant a lot!
