Sunday, April 10, 2011 ~ Our Holy Grounds Café is a place for light refreshments, coffee, and
The Torture and Humiliation of the King fellowship on the first and third Sundays of the month from 8:30 a.m. -
12 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall.

~ Our Infant and Toddler Nurseries are available every Sunday from
8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. They are located on the lower level of the church and
are staffed with our full-time, professional attendants and parent
volunteers.
~ Children's Church for ages four through third grade is offered at the
11 a.m. service and is guided by a parent volunteer. Children will be
dismissed after the Children's Message. Please pick up your children
from the lower level classrooms of the church following worship.

at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. LaBar preaching.
2011 Organ Series, begins Sunday May 22, at 3 p.m. with an exciting
variety of five guest performers in musical theater, classical, and sacred
styles. Please pick up fliers and ad forms in Fellowship Hall today to
share with the community. Volunteers are also invited to sign up for help
with greeting and reception. The event is free, and an offering will
benefit Family Promise.
Extra Teen and Adult Singers are welcome with the Chancel Choir for
seasonal music on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and/or Easter. For

Information and Events
New Alarm System - Please be aware that starting tomorrow, April 13
the entire church and office facilities will be armed. If you have a key
and did not receive a new alarm code please, call the church office. Your
old alarm code will not work and the police will be dispatched.
Please see Bruce Johnson with any questions regarding operating our
new alarm.
Time to Celebrate - The youth of our church will host a reception in the
New Youth Room Sunday, May 1 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Plan now to
walk down stairs and tour our newest addition to our facility. The
Community Room (former Youth Room) will also be open.
Weekly Adult Basketball in Fellowship Hall - Recreational (co-ed)
meets Monday at 8 p.m. For information call John at 426-7574. Adult
Men play Tuesday at 7 p.m. For information call Eric at 242-6047.
Church Softball (Monroe County Church League). The team is open
to all members and regular attendees 16 and older (If under 18 need
parent permission, as they are not covered under league insurance). The
team plays a doubleheader once or twice a week at local fields; if

(610) 733-4315 or sign up today in Fellowship Hall.
The Older Kids, our 65+ group, meets Monday, April 11 in Fellowship
Hall at 11:30 a.m. for a potluck lunch followed by a talk regarding
trained therapy dogs led by Pauline Fox.
Saturday Night Fellowship is April 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship
Hall. Please bring a dish to share that complements a Turkey dinner.
The Davis Class will have their monthly class meeting Monday, April
25 at 1 p.m. in the Bridal Lounge.
Celebrating Womanhood Banquet is Monday, May 16 from 6-8 p.m.
at the church. Entertainment by church youth, coordinated by Pauline
Fox. United Methodist Women will have tickets available in Fellowship
Hall Sunday, May 2 and 9.
Missing Books - United Methodist Women are missing many of their
books that are part of their reading program. So others may complete
this year’s study please, return them to the Bridal Lounge as soon as
possible.

Lord’s Army, our after-school program for students in 4th and 5th
grades, meets Tuesday, April 12 at the church. Bring your bible if you
have one-we will be doing "Bible Boot Camp." School pickup is
available from SIES, SMS and JM Hill.

Youth Ministries - 7th - 12th Grades

Sunday School - Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Youth Room. We meet
together until 11:15 a.m. then split into Jr. High and Sr. High classes.
During the Lenten season we will be participating in the church-wide
study based on the book, "24 Hours That Changed the World."
Sunday Night Program will be held this Sunday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Students are invited to participate in a time of games, worship, message,
and small group discussions in the Youth Room.
30-Hour Famine Date Set for Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30.
Plan to arrive at the church Friday evening by 7 p.m. We will be finished
by 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
Confirmation Class 2011 has started. Parents and students can find
information, updates and the necessary forms on the “Confirmation”
page of the Youth Website - www.esumc.net/youth.
Youth Praise Band, which leads our Sunday night worship, practices
every Tuesday evening. Interested instrumentalists and singers should
contact Scott to participate.
Youth Ministry continued,
Sr. High Outreach is every Wednesday from 2:45 - 5 p.m. All 9th - 12th
grade students are welcome to participate. After-school pick-up in
church vans is available from Stroudsburg Jr. High School.
The Next Service Saturday is April 9 from 9 a.m. to Noon.
Thursday Schedule: All youth are invited to participate in the following
weekly events:
• 2:45 - 5 p.m. - JAM is a time for 6th - 8th grade students. After-
school pick-up in church vans is available from JTL, Stroudsburg
Middle, and Stroudsburg Jr. High Schools. Permission forms are
required and available on the JAM Jr. High outreach page of the
youth website.
• 5 - 6 p.m. - Fellowship Meal for all 6th - 12 th grade students. Come
hang out with your friends, meet new people, and share in a meal.
• 6 - 7:30 p.m. - Small Group Bible Studies designed for 7th - 12th
grade students to grow deeper as a disciple of Christ. Groups are
available for Jr. High Girls, Jr. High Boys, and Sr. High.
2011 Summer Trips: Sign-up cards and information are available in the
Youth Room or on the "Forms and Info" page on the youth website.
Please return completed cards to Scott. A non-refundable deposit is
required for the Jr. and Sr. High mission trips and Creation.
Girls Shopping Trip to Leigh Valley Mall! Jr. and Sr. High girls and
their friends are invited to join Linda Drake and April Ace, Saturday,
April 16. Please bring money for shopping, lunch included. The church
van will be leaving at 10 a.m. returning approx. 4 p.m. Call April 856-

Prayer Ministry
Eaton Prayer Chapel Opportunity - As followers of Christ, we believe
that prayer is foundational to what takes place in our church. Did you
know that during every worship service, someone is praying in Eaton
Chapel? Would you be interested in being part of this ministry? For

Living with Grief: Spirituality and End-of-Life Care Teleconference is
Tuesday, April 26 from 1-4:30 p.m. at Penn State Cooperative Extension
office (724 Phillips St., Stroudsburg.) To register or for information, call
421-6430. A $15 registration fee is due April 15.
Cookie Deliverers Needed to take cookies and Easter gifts to our
nursing home and homebound members. If you would be willing to
make a few deliveries sometime during the week of April 17-23, please

PMC to Host Free Skin Cancer Screening on Saturday, May 7.
Limited appointments available and eligibility requirements exist. Call

Stephen Ministry is your Ministry. It is an important way
we at East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church care for one
another and our community. We are the eyes and ears of
Jesus on earth today. It is our duty to be watching and
listening to people around us, recognizing when they have
needs for care. If you find someone with a need, listen and care by telling

Missions
Aid for Earthquake and Tsunami Victims - The United Methodist
Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is connecting with partners to assess
damages and needs that rocked Japan. Donations can be sent to the church
office (advance # 3021317) or by visiting www.umcor.org. One hundred
percent of all money goes to emergency relief.
Soup-in-a-Bread Bowl Dinner is Holy Thursday, April 21 from 5:30 -
7 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Dinner includes your choice of homemade
soup in a bread bowl, salad and beverage. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for
children under 10.

Easter Season
Easter is a time for new beginnings. Most people who do not attend
church say they would go if a friend or family member invited
them. Why not take this opportunity to invite someone to our Holy
Week or Easter Services and share the love of Jesus Christ.
Palm Sunday, April 17
The Crucifixion - We hear in Jesus’ dying words of his purpose
and mission as God’s Messiah. Read Matthew 21:1-11.
Maundy (Holy) Thursday, April 21
Pastor Kimes will lead us in an emotional Tenbrae Service
starting at 7:30 p.m.. The candles in the sanctuary will be
extinguished while a series of scriptures are read. As the last
candle is extinguished the service will end in total darkness and
silence. However, the story is not over until Easter Sunday.
Piano Prelude Music from 7:10-7:30 p.m. will be played by
Pauline Fox. The congregation may request favorite hymns by
using the forms on Music Bulletin Board in Oberholtzer Hall, or
by contacting Pauline at foxes@esumc.net or 223-9889.
Good Friday, April 22
Pastor LaBar will lead this service from 12-12:45 p.m. in our
Sanctuary. This an opportunity to invite a co-worker to join you
as we remember Jesus' final day. Come worship and pray as we
prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate Easter.
Easter Sunday, April 24
Christ the Victor - The incredible promise of Easter – Christ
lives through us and promises life forevermore. Read Colossians
3:1-4 and Mark 16:1-6.
FOUNDATIONS CHRISTIAN PRESCHOOL
NOW ACCEPTING
NEW ENROLLMENTS!
After a successful first school year, our preschool, "Foundations," is
now accepting registrations for the 2011-12 school year for children
ages 3-5. Registration will continue until classes are full. Our
preschool is open to the entire community.
We will begin the school year with two morning sessions from 9 to
Noon. Tuesday and Thursday sessions for three year olds and
Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions for four and five year
olds. Each classroom will have a teacher and a teacher's assistant.
A $50 non-refundable registration fee is due with enrollment.
Tuition is set at $135/month for the T/TH session; and $180/month
for the M/W/F session to be paid in nine monthly installments.
September's tuition is due by August 1 and then by the 15th of each
month from October through May.

 Spring Easter Flowers
It’s time to honor or remember your loved one.

This year a variety of Easter flowers will be used to decorate our

Sanctuary Easter Sunday. Donations will be $6.50 per flower.

As an alternative to flowers, memorial and honorarium donations can

be made towards Japan Tsunami Relief and 100% of all contributions
will be sent to United Methodist Committee on Relief.
