TITLE OF THE STUDY

“A STUDY ON PRFERENCE OF JIMS STUDENTS WHILE SELECTING


PGDM SPECIALIZATION.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY –

“To determine the preference of PGDM, JIMS students while selecting


specialization.

HYPOTHESIS FORMULATION –

H1- Girls like HR as a specialization more.


H2- Family and Friends plays an important role in deciding the specialization.
H0 (1) - 80% girls like HR as specialization.
H0 (2) – 75% students think their decision is influenced by their family and
friends.

DESCRIPTIVE RESERCH DESIGN

Here we are using descriptive research design for our study. It includes
surveys and fact finding enquiries of different kinds. The major purpose of
descriptive research is description of the state of affairs as it exists at present.
Descriptive research studies are those studies which are concerned with
describing the characteristics of a particular individual, or of a group, whereas
diagnostic research studies determine the frequency with which something
occur or its association with something else. The design in such studies must
be rigid and not flexible and must focus attention on the following.

a) Formulating the objective of the study.


b) Designing the method of data collection.
c) Selecting the sample.
d) Collection of data.
e) Processing and analyzing the data.
f) Reporting the findings.

PRIMARY SOURCE OF DATA

Here in this research we have selected primary source of data. A well


structured questionnaire is prepared to collect the information from selected
sample size.

Static population because respondents will be found in classrooms and


respondent is chosen from attendance sheets.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We have done a Marketing Research on the topic “Preference of JAGANNATH


INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT SCHOOL student while selecting PGDM
-specialization” given by our professor Mr Ajay Pandit for the completion of
two years program of post graduation diploma course of management . The
report consists of formation of Questionnaire, Analyzing the finding and gaining
the result thereof by the proceeding findings as per the responses given by the
respondent.
In this project report, firstly, we have formed a questionnaire as per the
guidelines given by our faculty. He provide us prolong knowledge about the
techniques of forming questionnaire. He also provide in-depth information
about different type of questionnaire i.e., top of mind, aided and unaided which
have been entered in our questionnaire and also help us to gain very effective
report on our study conducted in JIMS kalkaji, New Delhi. After filling up a
questionnaire, we have prepared a finding chart and obtained a final result on
the prescribed finding been compiled by us.
Thus the whole report concluded that girls prefer human resource
specialization more in comparison to boys and also check out factors which are
affecting them during making choice of their stream of specialization.
CONCLUSIONS

1. From above findings we get the result that most of girls are
interested in selecting HR as a specialization in PGDM.

2. While selecting specialization gender plays an important role.

3. PARENT’S ADVICE while selecting specialization in PGDM is


important.

4. Friend’s advice is also influence a lot while selecting


specialization.

5. Most of the students also belief that Faculty’s advice is also


necessary.

6. Senior’s advice also plays an important role.

7. Students past academic background are also important in


selecting specialization.

8. Personal inclination also plays a major role in selecting


specialization.

9. Work experience is one of the important factors for decision


making.

10. Future Career prospectus is most important while selecting


specialization.

11. Very few students think that grade or marks is not very important
for selecting specialization.

So, from above conclusion we can see that case of girl they mostly prefer
Human resource as a specialization in PGDM.
And while selecting specialization parents, lecturer, friends and senior’s advice
are taken into consideration. Whereas grade marks doesn’t play much
important role in selecting specialization.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
1. Importance of gender in selecting specialization 18% of respondents are
in view that gender plays a very important role in selecting specialization
whereas 11% are in view that gender is unimportant in selecting
specialization.

2. Importance of parents advice in selecting specialization 42% of


respondents are in view that parents play an important role in taking
decision whereas 3% are in view that parents advice is not so important.

3. Importance of friends advice in selecting specialization 52% respondents


responded that friends advice is important in choosing specialization
whereas 4% are in view that friends advice are unimportant in choosing
specialization.

4. Importance of faculty advice in selecting specialization 43% students are


in view that faculties advice are important, 41% of respondents are in
view that faculties advice are very important whereas 2% students have
view that faculties advice are unimportant.

5. Importance of senior advice in selecting specialization

58% of students are in view that senior advice is important in selecting


specialization.

6. Importance of past academics background in selecting specialization

44% students are in view that past academics background are very
important in taking decision while selecting specialization.
7. Importance of future carrier prospects in selecting specialization 58%
students have view that future carrier prospects are very important, 10%
respondents have view that it is neutral.

8. Importance of personal inclination in selecting specialization

23% students are in view that personal inclination is not so important,


23% have neutral view whereas 3% have view that it is unimportant in
selecting specialization.

9. Importance of work experience in selecting specialization 45% of


students are in view that work experience is important in selecting
specialization whereas 7% have view that work experience is
unimportant in selecting specialization.

10. Preference of girls preference while selecting specialization

46% of girls like to take HR, 30% finance and 24% of girls would like to
take marketing as their specialization.

11. Importance of grad marks in selecting specialization 13% of students


responded that grad marks are very important whereas 3% have view
that grad marks are unimportant in selecting specialization.
