4.0 MAINTENANCE

Weekly
Ensure drain function / operation on all upstream drains is satisfactory.
Ensure that the changeover occurs approximately every 2 minutes.
Check all the gaskets, control valves, pipes, and fittings for air leaks.

The desiccant material used has a finite life but would typically exceed 10,000 hours. Desiccant
replacement should be undertaken at this interval or when it has become contaminated.

The filter requirements also have a finite life typically lasting 6,000 - 8,000 hours.

For desiccant changes or any other maintenance operation, service kits are available.

7
3.0 STARTUP AND OPERATION

Ensure a suitable supply of compressed air between 4 bar g (58 psi g) and 10.5 bar g (152 psi g)
pressure is available and check that the dryer cannot be overflowed.

All valves must be opened and closed gradually

WARNING!
Proceed as follows:
Do not operate the dryer until the instructions in this manual have been read and understood by
Using the By-Pass Line (F) all personnel concerned.
With the inlet (G) and outlet (H) valves closed the by-pass (J) valve open, introduce air to the dryer
by gradually turning the valve until fully open. When handling, installing or operating, personnel must employ safe engineering practices and observe all
related regulations, health and safety procedures, and legal requirements for safety.
Allow the dryer to fully pressurise, then open the outlet valve while simultaneously closing the by-
pass valve. Most accidents that occur during the operation and maintenance of machinery are the result of failure to
observe basic safety rules and procedures. Accidents can be avoided by recognising that any machinery

Without By-Pass Line (F) Ingersoll Rand can not anticipate every possible circumstance which may represent a potential hazard.
The WARNINGS in this manual cover the most known potential hazards, but by definition cannot be all

inclusive. If the dryer user employs an operating procedure, item of equipment or a method of working
which is not specifically recommended by Ingersoll Rand the user must ensure that the dryer will not be

damaged or made a potential hazard to persons or property.
Allow the dryer to fully pressurise, then gradually open the outlet valve. IMPORTANT

The dryer is now on stream.

Caution: Power
During Operation Risk of Electric Shock
Following the start-up procedure, operation of the dryer is fully automatic and requires no further
attention until shut down.

The dryer column contains two chambers of desiccant material. While one is drying the compressed Attention
air (adsorption), the other is simultaneously undergoing regeneration (desorption). Approximately
every 2 minutes, the adsorption and desorption chambers are automatically reversed in function. At
the changeover, the air in the desorption column is vented to atmosphere, characterised by a small
hissing noise. Pressurised components on system

Shut-Down Procedure
Using By-Pass Line (F)
Close the outlet valve (H) while simultaneously opening by-pass (J) valve. BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK INCLUDING DRAINING, SETTING, ADJUSTING OR
DISMANTLING ENSURE THE SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURISED.
Close the inlet valve (G).
The air will now by-pass the dryer which will automatically depressurise. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR WARRANTY MAY BE INVALIDATED IF THE EQUIPMENT HAS NOT
BEEN INSTALLED, COMMISSIONED AND MAINTAINED BY Ingersoll Rand OR AN Ingersoll Rand
APPROVED AGENT.
Without By-Pass Line (F)
Close the outlet valve (H). Close the inlet vale (G). The dryer will automatically depressurise.

NB The by-pass valve (J) should only be opened if the dryer is undergoing maintenance.

2.1 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
TYPE HEATLESS 1. INTRODUCTION
Model TZM
Dewpoint Nominal -40oC (-40oF) The TZM range of compressed air dryers are designed to remove moisture from compressed air by utilising
Optional -70oC (-94oF) state of the art technology to obtain dewpoints of -40oC (-40˚F), and by appropriate de-rating,
-70oC (-94˚F).
Air Quality including filtration ISO 8573.1 Class 1.2.1
Optional Class 1.1.1 The TZM range of dryers have been designed to require minimal maintenance and can be installed virtually
Maximum Operating Pressure 10.5 bar g (150 psi g) anywhere.

Minimum Operating Pressure 4 bar g (58 psi g) The TZM dryer consists of an inlet and an outlet manifold joined together with an aluminium column. The
Maximum Inlet Temperature 50oC (122oF) column has twin internal chambers both filled with desiccant material. During operation one chamber is on-
line (drying) while the other is regenerating, using the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) process.
Minimum Inlet Temperature 5oC (41oF)
Standard Electrical Supply 240V AC / 1PH / 50Hz Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA)
Others Available on Request (110V AC / 1PH / 60Hz) (110V AC / 1PH / 60Hz) A small percentage of dried air is taken from the dryer output flow and is used to regenerate the saturated
chamber by expanding the dried air from line pressure to atmospheric pressure. During this process, the
Controls Standard Cam Timer
moisture is physically removed from the regenerating chamber and vented to atmosphere through the
Noise Level 75 db(A) exhaust silencers.

2.2 ELECTRICAL DETAILS

Component qualified electricians must work on dryer circuitry.
Check the rating plate for power supply requirements.
Correct isolator switches must be provided at a safe and accessible point near the dryer.
The dryer must be connected with a live, neutral and ground.

NOTE 50mA fuse protection is required but is not included as part of this package.

It is possible to operate the cam timer from 240 volt single phase 50Hz supplies or 110v 50Hz or
60Hz supplies by connecting as indicated in the wiring diagrams below. Please ensure that the
necessary cam motor has been requested and supplied before attempting connection.

2.0 INSTALLATION (Refer to figure 1) figure 1

Care must be taken to ensure that the dryer is not subject to flows, (even peaks) in excess of the F J H
dryers rated capacity, e.g. dryers downstream of an air receiver have increased potential to be
overflowed. C
The dryer can be installed either free standing or wall mounted. OUT
NOTE: CSA Approved dryers, base should be securely mounted to a supporting surface.

The black control enclosure (A) must be at the bottom and the dryer must be installed vertical and
level. E
Two inlet connections are available at the bottom of the dryer to enable connection from either left
or right. The unused connection (B) must be sealed with the threaded plug provided. Suitable rated IN
pipe and connections must be used for the installation.
G
Two outlet connections are available at the top of the dryer to enable connection from either left or
right. The unused connection (C) must be sealed with the threaded plug provided. Suitable rated
pipe and connections must be used for the installation. L

The purge flow is factory set for 6 bar g (87 psi g) minimum operating pressure. Should your D
minimum pressure requirement be different, the purge flow must be reset by a Ingersoll Rand
Engineer or an Ingersoll Rand approved agent.
B
Ensure the dryer is electrically connected to a supply suitable for the unit. See wiring diagram
printed on the control enclosure.

1. Filtration K
A Ingersoll Rand HE high efficiency filter (D) must be used on the inlet to the dryer to protect
the desiccant bed from oil, water and dirt contamination.

It is also recommended that a Ingersoll Rand GP general purpose pre-Filter should be used A
in addition to the grade HE.

A Ingersoll Rand DP dust removal filter (E) must be applied at the outlet of the dryer to
remove any fine particles of desiccant dust.

The above filters should be connected directly to the dryer using the optional bolt together
fixing kit as described in the filter Instructions Manual included with the filters.

2. By-Pass Line (F)

A by-pass line (F) ensures complete safety during maintenance and enables a continuous
supply of compressed air to be maintained if required. It should be remembered that air by-
passing the dryer is dirty, untreated air.
