Mrs. McClellan, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Rickicki, Mrs. Scott...
It is finally spring, and we are all anxious for the warmer weather and
sunshine! The first graders have sure been busy over the last several
weeks and are looking forward to our spring break and upcoming holidays!
The first graders have continued to progress in their studies. We
have been studying tricky vowel pairs in reading, as well as word endings.
Our stories and class discussions have focused on the theme “Surprising
Treasures”. We have discussed all types of treasures, from kind deeds
done to others to dinosaur bones and other things people find. Make sure
to read every day over the long spring break!
In math, we are wrapping up our unit on shapes and geometry. Try
finding examples of these shapes in your home: cone, pyramid,
rectangular prism, cube, sphere, and cylinder. The next chapter is often the
most difficult in first grade: Money and Time. PLEASE practice at home by
reviewing coin names, coin values, counting by 5s and 10s, and the hands
of a clock.
