Unbound Medicine and Johns Hopkins Publish Point-of-Care Resources -

Unbound™ Platform Used to Create, Update, and Distribute Johns Hopkins

Guides

Charlottesville, VA, April 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Unbound Medicine, a leader in knowledge
management solutions for healthcare, has been named today by Johns Hopkins University as the official
electronic publisher of the web- and mobile-based versions of Johns Hopkins' highly regarded Antibiotic
(ABX), Diabetes, and HIV POC-IT Guides, clinical decision support tools that bring trusted information
to healthcare professionals at the point of care.

Central to the new publishing relationship is the Unbound™ Platform's ability to continually maintain,
publish, and fulfill multi-platform digital products as well as produce files for print composition. Using
Unbound's web-based content management system, uPub™, expert editors at Johns Hopkins are able to
write, edit, and review, easily updating a single XML content repository containing the ABX, Diabetes,
and HIV Guides in a customized workflow. Unbound then uses the platform to publish the latest version
directly to the website and mobile devices including iOS (iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad®), Android™,
BlackBerry®, and Windows Phone®.

Working closely with Johns Hopkins, the Unbound product design and marketing teams defined a
product launch based on seven distinct product packages using the Unbound Platform for product
configuration, e-marketing, and e-commerce. Following purchase, individual and institutional customers
can access the continually updated website or download the Guides to their choice of mobile device.

“Our digital publishing technology is designed to make it simple for Hopkins authors and editors to focus
on creating great content that can be regularly updated in a single place, then immediately output it to a
full range of applications and devices,” said Philip Peterson, chief technology officer at Unbound
Medicine. “Operating systems and hardware change quickly, so developing one-off applications is not a
scalable solution.”

“Unbound Medicine is excited to publish the Johns Hopkins Guides including the ABX Guide, which has
a remarkable history as an early digital reference, long known for outstanding quality,” said Bill Detmer,
MD, Unbound's President. “We look forward to building additional tools using our medical knowledge,
information architecture, and technology to help clinicians find answers when and where they need
them.”

About Johns Hopkins Medicine
From the 1889 opening of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, to the opening of the School of Medicine four
years later, there emerged the concept of combining research, teaching and patient care. This model, the
first of its kind, would lead to a national and international reputation for excellence and discovery. Today,
Johns Hopkins uses one overarching name—Johns Hopkins Medicine—to identify its entire
medical enterprise. This nearly $6 billion system unites the physicians and scientists of the Johns Hopkins
University School of Medicine with the health professionals and facilities that make up the broad,
integrated Johns Hopkins Health System.
