Engineering responsibilities
Product Strategy: Compare & Analyse a product taking into account the capabilities in terms of
engineering[compatibility with different O.S platforms-Solaris/Linux/AIX/HP-UX], production [compatibility with
existing PROD applications], distribution of the product [to all systems handled by unix team] and time to acquire
them (license/cost/location restrictions). Product is selected coping up with the customers expectations.
Product Design: Product design varies w.r.t different O.S platforms. Each design prototype [in Visio flow-charts] is
tested on development and UAT systems, before implementing it on production
Product Introduction: Email notification of the new product is circulated to all teams involved and different
opinions are collected. Product specific training is provided to admins, developers and end-users on a weekly basis,
until all users are trained. Alpha-testing and Beta-testing output are incorporated into the prototype until the product
is finally accepted.
Product Operations: Product is deployed on Production with a 1-month monitoring period [Go-Live
period].Software, manuals and webpages related to the product are published for each team related to the product.
Third-party Products: InWork Vxworks, Bindview, Seccheck2, Tivoli ITM/XPM, TSM, HP Business/Server
Automation {Opsware}, SVN, Matlab, IBM Websphere, JIVE, Kintana, Maximo, ITSM, SNO etc..
