Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the planning, installation and maintenance of LAN systems,
including Email and Internet/Intranet facilities, within the mission area.
2. Acts as LAN/Email manager and serves as focal point for IT matters at all the
UNHCR offices in the country of assignment.
3. In liaison with the Telecoms. Section the incumbent offers advice on
requirements to maximise the effectiveness of email connections for the
4. Ensures implementation of UNHCR IT systems and equipment standards.
5. Designs, programs, tests, and implements IT systems and applications, based
on user requirements and UNHCR IT standards and strategy.
6. Regularly discusses and coordinates with Heads of Office and Administrative
Officers operational and administrative matters relating to IT equipment,
systems and personnel requirements.
7. Regularly liaises with ITTS in Headquarters, IT staff from UNHCR and other
UN agencies in the region, local/regional suppliers and travels in order to
perform the aforementioned duties.
8. Maintains updated IT systems and equipment inventory and documentation
and regularly submits reports to ITTS on IT issues.
9. Ensures availability of sufficient spares of LAN core equipment to serve as
backup for faulty equipment.
10. Selects and/or recommends suitably qualified local personnel to perform
LAN/Email./Database administration and operation functions.
11. Participates in defining, testing and implement new IT standards and
strategies for UNHCR based on user requirements and UNHCR IT strategy.
12. Undertakes other tasks or assignments within the area of competences, as

University degree in Computer Sciences, Information System, Information Technology
and/or any other relevant field. Candidates should possess good communication
skills, with good knowledge of computer applications. Experience in Information
Technology from other international or UN organisations and relevant computer
training is desirable.

Minimum two years of relevant job experience.

Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written), Urdu and other local languages
