Actually, my salary is more compared to some of my friends. But the more I get, the more I spent. That’s what
happened to me. But luckily, I still managed to save most of it, either for my own saving or for my family in case
they need it. I took M1 broadband for my computer which I pay $38.00 every month. My phone bill is quite high
too. Often I paid about $200, and I still have to buy top up card for my other number. Sometimes, when my bill is
not so high, I am able to buy some clothes or any other things. But when its high, then I have to forget about it.
Because I have to make sure that I save the same amount every month. This way, I make sure that although I
spent a lots, I still have saving too. (Myna)

 The fieldtrip

Each country must have a separate icon to indicate the typical value in the eyes of the world, is no
exception with Singapore. Yes, a characteristic that attracted the attention of travelers and foreign
tourists to visit it in droves, not to mention become a pride for the locals of course.

The history

The Merlion was designed as an emblem for the

Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1964. The
designer was Mr Fraser Brunner, a member of
the souvenir committee and a curator of the Van
Kleef Aquarium.

The Merlion has a lion head and a fish body

resting on a crest of waves. The lion head
symbolises the legend of the rediscovery of
Singapura, as recorded in the "Malay Annals". In
ancient times, Singapore was known as
Temasek, a Javanese word for sea. In the 11th
century A.D, Prince Sang Nila Utama of the Sri
Vijaya Empire rediscovered the island. When the
Prince first landed on Singapore's shores, he
sighted a mystical beast which he later learnt was
a lion. The Prince then decided to name the
island "Singapura" which in Sanskrit means Lion
(Singa) City (Pura). The fish tail of the Merlion
symbolises the ancient city of Temasek and
represents Singapore's humble beginnings as a
fishing village.
Merlion Park, call it one of them, located in
the heart of the city adjacent to the unique
structure of The Esplanade Theater or more
recognizable with Durian Building for exterior
building structures that resemble giant durian.
Not far from there also exist the Marina Bay
Floating Stadium is used as a place to hold major
events such as this country independence day
which falls on 9 August every year. Of course
the soothing sights not invite everybody’s eyes
only but made great view to shot a picture too.
This fact make the region become one of the
most favorite attraction that will never be
forgotten. Coupled with the existence of the river
dotted with boats that carry passengers passing
by an excursion to enjoy the beauty of luxurious
buildings skyscrapers.
So what exactly is it that so Merlion Park to steal the
attention of many eyes to see him? Yes, he is not a
magnificent building with beautiful architecture, and
a flower garden with herbs colorful. He is a statue of
a lion-headed fish that ejects water from the funnel
mouth. Standing tall overlooking the Marina Bay
Sands seemed to pose to visitors to take pictures.

 an animal that he thought looks like a lion was
loose in the land of this country. Since that time
this land was named Singapore by King Nila
Utama until now.

GRADUATION AND FAREWELL PARTY for Mr.Wardana

On the 27th of March last month, at Sekolah Indonesia Singapura was held a very special event,
which was graduation for all the participant who had been completed their classes for September
2010-March 2011 term. At the same time this event was also as a farewell party for Mr.Wardana
who had been completed his term in Singapore. It was quite big event and people were packed at
the hall of SIS. This was because there were artist who performed specially for this event. Other
than the artist, some of the Domestic Workers were performed too.

The Profile

As Mr. Wardana will go back to Indonesia that means he has
finished his job here. Maybe, I am not the right person to share
my impression and story which reflected our nation's father
here in Singapore since 2007. I didn't have a lot of experiences
in interacting directly with him. But what he has done to our
embassy and the Indonesian communities here make me want
to share my gratitude to him.
“A person can achieve everything by being simple
and humble.” ~ quote from Rig Veda (Indian sacred
book)
It is a quote which I found suitable to describe my
impression towards Mr. Ambassador. As a big country's
ambassador like Indonesia; a rich and high lifestyle would be
usual thing that we can see. But different impression reflected
from Mr Wardana and his family lifestyle. 'Humble and open'
are the perfect words which can illustrate his looks and
personality. Since his staying in Singapore, there always an
open house for all Indonesian community after Idul Fitri pray.
On that day, his house is packed with Indonesian people who
also got treated with delicious Indonesian food. He and his wife
greet all the visitors to welcome to their residence.

During his stay as an Indonesian Ambassador in Singapore he
made several changings for embassy and the community.
Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has been awarded for its best
public services.
The compliment given to the effectiveness of passport
administration process. The previous pricey cost for $80 was
being reduced to $35 with phototaking process at embassy's
site.
Indonesian embassy nowadays was more open with
various public dialog with Indonesian community and any
activities which involved with Indonesian community living in
Singapore.
Another changing policy which gave more
impression to me was his openness and supports for our
Indonesian domestic workers. Indonesian embassy has made a
bigger shelter and facilitate their dispute settlements. Domestic
workers also given chances to get formal institution to
upgrade their education. P3K (Pusat Pelatihan dan
Pengembangan Ketrampilan) is the formal education
institution for Indonesian domestic workers so they can
upgrade skills in english, computer, get higher school
certificate and even pursue for a university degree which
offered by Open University of Indonesia. I can feel the learning
spirit and excitement of our Indonesian sisters who work here
to get hopes in upgrading their life standard from this formal
institution.
Nothing more can be worth gratifying than a wishful
pray for the better life and health of Mr Wardana and his
family. Then also expecting for the better succession in the next
term which can continue to improve our Indonesian community
development.

Short story .... I'm Going Home! by : yanti

Ingredients :

remembered my grandparents who had raised
me. They have been long passed away, that's what
used to make me reluctant to go home. Also my
two sisters have been married, made me feel not
so necessary as well to go home. Even if I go
home, they've got their own busyness. So is Ma,
having never lived with her made me felt not
important to go home.
Now I realized that the water is still water
... that will still blend with the water. No water
may be fused with oil, though both forms are
liquid, and that's family relationships. So with joy,
tonight I'm screaming ........
