competitive state of affairs it is necessary that anything that made or any message we want to
give needs to be projected by professionals in an organized manner to the targeted audience.
We realize the fact that media companies need to be more involved with media schools. Only
this can plug the big talent gap in the world of mass communication. The entire framework of
our department has been built on the premise of dynamic interaction with media professionals

Effective Mass Communication is one of the most potent weapons in the modern world. It
can change the tide of public opinion and send vital messages out to a large section of
society. The number of news channels is continually on the rise. It’s the same case with
newspapers and radio stations. The intelligent readership is growing and books are seeing
resurgence in the market. The media has many segments : the print medium being the
oldest; Journalism via electronic media such as the television, radio, satellite
communication; Advertising and Public Relations is another method by which it is possible
to reach out to millions.
The course equips you with knowledge and skills, which enable you, not only to perform to
industry standards, but also to excel in the field of your choice.
Academics
Our faculty is drawn from different spheres of media industry so that the students can be
kept informed of the latest trends and practices for future careers in the media world. The
majority of our faculty members are top class professionals who combine years of practical
experience with vast theoretical knowledge. The teaching methodology is a balance of
practical with theory that forms the core around which teaching takes place. Faculty brings
their broad based experience into the classroom to enrich the teaching experience and
ensure that course work reflects current industry practices.
The three year course in Journalism and Mass Communication provides a multi
dimensional study covering all aspects of media to communicate with masses through:
Print Medium
Learn all aspects of becoming a front line journalist – Commercial Executive, Production
Incharge, Content & Concept Writer or a marketing executive for career in newspapers,
magazines or any other print production house.
Broadcast Media
JIMS has its own FM Community Radio 96.9 MHz & 90.4 MHz frequency supported by a
well equipped recording & editing studio. Students are given full academic knowledge of
Radio, supported by technical & practical knowledge. The JIMS Community Radio is run by
our students. Each student has to make at least two to four programmes and broadcast
them through radio for benefit of the society.
TV & Cinema has taken over the entertainment industry covering English, Hindi and local
languages. There are more than 100 channels and unlimited growth of Film Worlds.
We at JIMS, have a state-of-the-art Studio with facilities of Camera, Editing, Music mixing
and Lighting with faculty and assistants to provide technical know how & practical training.
Students make their individual-group films & programmes both indoor & outdoor. Our
students participate as delegates in International Film Festival at Goa every year where
they interact with world-renowned Directors, Film Makers and Actors. They also attend
workshops on various aspects of film production and learn the various technicalities
involved in it like research, script writing, story board development, camera & light
operations and editing, covering pre & post aspects of audio-visual production.
In the well developed competitive economy Public Relations has become an essential part
of all industries to communicate with their target audience. We strongly feel that the course
is incomplete without providing a full study of public relations aspect of communication.
This covers interaction of internal & external public, crisis management, corporate
publication, exhibitions, event organizing, social issues and working of social welfare
organization.
Advertising
Advertising has become an integral part of creating awareness & reading any message to
masses and target groups. This industry has grown over the short span of two decades into
a 2000 crore business, providing job & career opportunities in varied fields. Looking into
this ever growing media of reaching masses we cover in our curriculum a full study of
advertising, exposing our students to types of advertisements, their scope and growth,
indoor and outdoor methods of advertising agencies.
