INTRODUCTION OF TOPIC

Research topic is A STUDY OF WORK VALUE AND ATTITUDE

[1] VALUES:

Values are important to the study of organizational

behavior because they lay foundation for the understanding of attitude
and motivation and they influence our perceptions. Individuals enter an
organization with preconceived noticed notions of what “ought” and what
“not ought” to be. Of course, these notions are not value free. On the
country, they contain interpretations of right and wrong. Value generally
influences attitudes and behavior.

[2] ATTITUDES:

Attitudes are evaluating statement either favorable or

unfavorable concerning objects, people or events. Attitudes reflect how
one feels about something or someone.

Viewing attitudes as made up of three components------are Cognitive,

affective and behavioral. – is helpful in understanding in their complexity
and the potential relationship between attitude and behavior. In the
organizational behavior studied only focus of the work related attitudes of
the employee. These work related attitude tap positive and negative
evaluation that employee hold about of their work environment. OB has
been concern with three attitudes-----Job satisfaction, Job involvement
and Organizational commitment

Job satisfaction refers to a collection of feelings that an individual holds

towards his or her job. A person of high level of job satisfaction holds

5
positive feelings about the job, while a person who is dissatisfied with his
or her job holds negative feelings about the job.

Job involvement measures the degree to which a person identifies

psychologically with his or her job and considers his or her perceived
performance level importance to self-worth. High level of job involvement
is positively related to organizational citizenship and job performance.

Organizational commitment which is defined as a state in which an

employee identifies with a particular organization and its goals, and
wishes to maintain membership in the organization.

Organizational commitment which is defined as a state in which an

employee identifies with a particular organization and its goals, and
wishes to maintain membership in the organization.

As the refer of the attitude and value of employees towards the company
I have getting much of knowledge about the mind set depends on the
psychological theories.

• WHAT IS BANKING?

Banking is a business that provides financial services, usually for

profit. Traditional banking services include receiving deposits of
money, of lending money and processing transactions. Commercial
bank accepts deposits from customers and in turn makes loans based
on those deposits. Some banks issue banknotes as legal tender. Many
banks offer ancillary financial services to make additional profit; for
example: selling insurance products, investment products.

Banking, the business of providing financial services to consumer

and businesses. The basic services a bank provides are checking
accounts, which can be used like money to make payments and
purchase goods and services; saving accounts and time deposits that
can be used to save money for future use; loans that consumers and
businesses can use to purchase goods and services; and basic cash
management services such as check cashing and foreign currency
exchange. Four types of bank specialize on offering these basic
banking services: commercial banks, savings and loan associations,
savings banks and credit unions. A broader definition of a bank is any
financial institution that receives, collects, transfers, pays, exchanges,
lends, invests, or safeguards money for its customers. This broader
definition includes many other financial institutions that are not usually
thought of as banks but which nevertheless provide one or more of
these broadly defined banking services. These institutions include
finance companies, investment companies, investment banks,
insurance companies, and pension funds, security brokers and
dealers, mortgage companies, and real estate investment trusts.

LITRATURE REVIEW

(1) “A study of work value and attitude”

Topic: TAX RELATED ATTITUDES AND VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
Prepared by PhD candidates under the guidance of Mr. Chris Mobs
Published by authorized Department of Psychology, University of
Adelaide in 2000-01
Summary version was presented at the ATAX Conference, 2002.

Abstract:
This study was primarily designed to identify the attitudes (A) and
values (V) associated with taxpaying compliance. This was done by
investigating the relationships between survey responses and tax
return data and thereby to identify new compliance strategies based on
behavioral indicators according to seven specific categories of
taxpayer. The study also aimed to better understand taxpayer to allow
the development of strategies to improve compliance behavior. Other
questions were: to what extent do AV relate to taxpayer compliance;
are taxpayer attitudes different according to the category to which they
belong; which tax related issues and policy impact most on taxpayer
behaviors and compliance; and also how do current ATO client
relationships affect taxpayer compliance?
ATTITUDES (A) – personal opinion based judgments, evaluative such
as the tax system is fair, or the ATO is the most professional public
sector agency. For example, “I have found tax returns too difficult to
do”.
VALUES (V) – universal social nouns widely held such as Australians
do not “dob” on each other. For example, “In Australia we expect that
everyone will lodge their tax return on time”.

(2) “A study of work value and attitude”
Topic: Research report food and the relation between values and
attitude characteristics: Eight contributions to social food studies in the
Low Countries……
Prepared by DREEZENS Ellen; MARTIJN Carolien;
Published by Elsevier, Amsterdam, PAYS-BAS (1980) (Revue)
Date: ---

Abstract:
This survey showed that the values power (dominance
over nature and resources) and universalisms (respect for people and
for nature) are related to attitudes toward genetically modified food
(GMF) and organically grown food (OGF). Furthermore, these values
have an influence on the centrality, commitment and ambivalence of
these altitudes. Values that are positively related to an attitude
influence how central this attitude is to a person. However, values that
are negatively related to an altitude have a larger effect on the
commitment of this attitude. No such pattern of effects was found for
the relationship between ambivalence and values. These data suggest
that centrally, commitment, and ambivalence are structurally different
constructs that have a distinct relationship with specific values.

(3) “A study of work value and attitude”
Topic: brand attitude, value relevance, high-technology markets,
stock return
Prepared by: Vice Chairman, Prophet Brand Strategy, University of
California
Publication: ---
Date: ---

Abstract:
The author assess the extent to which brand attitude, a
key component of brand equity, has value relevance—that is, helps
predict future earnings and thus firm value—in high-technology
markets. Using data for firms in the computer industries, the authors
find that changes in brand attitude are associated contemporaneously
with stock return and lead accounting financial performance. The study
also provides insights into the drivers of brand attitude. The authors
find that both product attributes and peripheral cues shape brand
attitudes in high-technology markets.

(4) “A study of work value and attitude”
Topic: Firm value and employee attitudes on workplace quality
Prepared by By Ballou, Brian
Publication: Accounting Horizons
Date: Monday, December 1 2003

Abstract:
This paper investigates the relation between the value
of a firm and employee attitudes on the firm's workplace quality--
workplace attitudes. Workplace attitude refers to recognition of those
organizational characteristics that enhance employee work
experiences and assist employees in balancing their jobs and personal
lives. Using inclusion on Fortune's annual list of "The 100 Best
Companies to Work for in America" as a proxy for successful efforts in
creating high workplace attitudes, we compare the market values of
listed firms to the market values of nonplused firms in the same
industry matched on earnings. After controlling for book value, past
operational performance, and research and development expense, we
find that market values of listed firms exceed those of matched firms.
We also provide evidence that firms ranked high on the Fortune list
receive higher market values than those ranked lower on the list.
Finally, the two-year forward market returns for listed firms exceed the
returns for the matched sample while the two-year prior returns are not
significantly different between the two groups. This result suggests that
market performance does not determine inclusion on the Fortune list.

(5) “A study of work value and attitude”
Topic: Survey of Attitudes and Values in Archaeological Practice
Prepared by: Julie Zimmer, Richard Wilk, and Anne Pyburn
Publication: ---
Date: ---

Abstract:

In general, stewardship is a strongly

embedded value among those who responded to this questionnaire.
Site protection measures and the need to address environmental
impacts of excavation were consistently rated as obligatory practices.
Most respondents also regarded public outreach for educational
purposes as recommended or obligatory, whether in the form of giving
tours, publishing in local media, or distributing teaching materials to
local institutions.

On the other hand, there was a clear divergence of opinions on other

aspects of community involvement in archaeology. The most
controversial issues include whether archaeologists should report
violations of permit or antiquities laws by local people, use formal
contracts when hiring local workers, give preference to local
archaeologists when hiring or seeking collaborators, consult with
groups that have a cultural affinity to a site, monitor the crews' sexual
behavior, or publish reports when local entities object to the contents.
Another controversial area concerns the relationships among
archaeologists, museums, and collectors. Many archaeologists felt
they should authenticate artifacts for reputable museums, but
disapproved of appraising artifacts for museums or purchasing artifacts
for any reason.

(6) “A study of work value and attitude
Topic: Teacher perceptions of physical education in the school
attitudes, values and curriculum preferences
Prepared by: Morgan, Philip
Publication: Physical Educator
Date: 01-JAN-08

Abstract:
The major aim of this study was to examine
the relationship between teachers' curriculum preferences in the
primary school and the relative value they place on PE compared to
other key learning areas (KLAs) of the primary curriculum. Data were
collected from 422 pre-service and 63 in-service classroom teachers.
Results suggested that most respondents considered PE to be a
relatively valuable KLA but indicated they would prefer to teach other
KLAs rather than PE. Insufficient time was the most commonly cited
impediment to the delivery of PE programs. Nearly all respondents
agreed that specialist teachers should be involved in the teaching of
PE in some capacity. Significant relationships were established
between a number of attitudinal variables relating to PE and interesting
findings emerged from post hoc analysis of group differences,
particularly regarding in-service teachers. Given that many teachers
would prefer not to teach PE, strategies must be devised to improve
training and support for teachers or the employment of specialist PE
teachers made a priority.

(7) “A study of work value and attitude
Topic: The Study and Measurement of Values and Attitudes
Prepared by: Kerlinger, Fred N.
Publication: ---
Date: 1972-04-00

Abstract:
The author defines values, attitudes, and
beliefs according to their relation to referents. A referent is a construct
standing for a set or category of social objects, ideas, or behaviors that
is the focus of an attitude. Attitudes and values are belief systems.
Beliefs are enduring cognitions about referents; beliefs reflect the value
and attitude systems to which they are related. An attitude is an
enduring emotional, motivational, perceptual and cognitive organization
of beliefs about referents, or sets of referents, that predispose
individuals to behave positively or negatively toward the referents. A
value is an organization of beliefs about abstract referents; values set
judgments of "goodness" or "badness" on the referents and imply
preferences for norms and standards of behavior. Referents are
differentially criteria to different sets of individuals, depending on their
personal orientations. While great progress has been made in the
measurement of attitudes, little apparent interest exists in the
measurement of values. The author sees the definition of values and
the distinction between attitudes and values as necessary for furthering
the progress of value research.

RESEARCH

METHDOLOGY

22
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

• WHAT IS RESEARCH?

Research is scientific or critical investigation

aimed at discovering and interpreting facts. Research may use the
scientific method, but need not do so.

• WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH?

Scientific research relies on the application

of the scientific method, a harnessing of curiosity. This research
provides scientific information and theories for the explanation of the
nature and the properties of the world around us. It makes practical
applications possible. Scientific research is funded by public
authorities, by charitable organizations and by private groups, including
many companies. Scientific research can be subdivided into different
classifications according to their academic and application disciplines.

• WHAT IS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY?

Research methodology is one kind of the

methods of research by which the researcher can easily search
findings and find analysis which he can do in research. Research
methodology is the process of research.

23
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

1. To know the attitudes of employees towards organization

2. To know the job involvement of employees
3. To know the relationship between employee and employer
4. To know the value of employee in organization
5. Is personality developed of employee in organization?---search on
this
6. To know employees are satisfied or not from wage rate.

24
RESEARCH DESIGN

What is Research Design?

Research design can be thought of as the structure of research -- it is

the "glue" that holds all of the elements in a research project together. “A
research design is the arrangement of conditions for collection and
analysis of data in a manner that aims to combined relevance to the
research purpose with economy in procedure.”

Generally there are mainly three types of research design:

1. Exploratory research studies
• The survey of concerning literature
In this research study select a survey
exploratory research, in this report survey conducted in
HDFC Bhavnagar branch and Ahmedabad branch.
• The experience survey
2. Descriptive & diagnostic research studies
3. casual/ Hypothesis – testing research studies

In this research study use only survey method and the

instrument is questionnaire.

25
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

(1) Primary research: involves the collection of data that does not
already exist. This can be through numerous forms, including
questionnaires and telephone interviews amongst others. This
information may be used in such things as questionnaires, magazines,
and Interviews

(2) Secondary research: involves the summary, collation and/or

synthesis of existing research rather than primary research, where data
is collected from, for example, research subjects or experiments.

Any research study can not be made without the collection of

data. So, there in this study the research instrument is questionnaires.

26
SAMPLING PLAN

We field studies are undertaking in practical life,

consideration of time and cost almost in variably lead to a selection of
only a few items is called as sample.

The sampling plan or design can be divided into certain

steps. Which are as follows……

 Sample unit: This research study is made on compression

of employee work value and attitude at HDFC bank in
Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad.
 Sample size: For this research study the sample size is 40
employee of Bhavnagar branch and 40 employee of
Ahmedabad branch. Thus total 80 employees of HDFC bank
takes and survey on them.
 Sampling methodology : cluster randomly selection

In this research study use only survey method and the

instrument is questionnaire. In research questionnaire there are mainly
two types of questions.
(1) Close ended & multiple questions: 30 question
(2) Open ended: 2 question

27
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

1. The main short coming of the project was that the generalization
has been made based on a restricted sample of one bank only.
2. Still there is manual work is going on and employee are over
burden with work and do not have time for the updating of the
system.
3. This topic is only based upon the I-Q test, some of the result which
may not able to find by survey, because every mind set is different
so, find perfect ratio is very difficult.
4. Due to training some of the employees are so busy with there work
so, I don’t have attaché every employees of Bhavnagar or
Ahmedabad branch only samples are taken.
5. During survey process some of the employee getting fear to giving
such questions of answers, that’s way the result may be not perfect.

FINDINGS

59
FINDINGS

 Bank’s employees are very conscious about organization reputation

in market. Employee stay with organization as there own family and
they are very much involved in their work.
 Every employee is hard working and if any employee is lazy in
between than organization gives him pressure while the employee
have to do work at a time.
 Every employee of HDFC is very supportable with their colleagues
and customers also.
 Employees are very helpful to other and they know by which
behavior they stay in bank. After all, the private sector don’t gives
security from there job.
 Every employee knows that their job is not secure but then also they
have to do work sincerely.
 Some employees are not satisfied with organizations rules and
regulations.
 Organization can’t worry about employee’s problems. While
organization should be hear employee’s problems regarding their
work.
 Every employees of HDFC try to improving their image of corporate
world.
 One fact is employee get benefit from bank and their career will be
bright because of this bank.
 Employees get more stress from organization. Organization should
be tried to give less loading of work and try to improving employee’s
personal development.
 Organization should be concentrate on employee’s health. Gives
some times free to get them enjoy and party arrangements.

60
 In Bank competitive enviourment is more then the supportable. So,
every employee can joules with others performance. Thus the real
corporate and practical business culture is there.
 HDFC is much costly than other private bank so, try to give more
interest rate. But also one fact is acceptable that bank is much
speedy than other bank.
 The wage rate is more than other firm. So, Bhavnagar rural
employees of bank are satisfied with the wage rate but in city like
Ahmedabad employee get dissatisfaction from their wage rate.

61
SUGGESTIONS

62
SUGGESTIONS

Following are some of the suggestions from bank’s employee

him self for some changes in organization.

 Try to secure employees job by their performance.

 organization can think about what image going on in there
customers mind for the bank
 HDFC needs more competitive in financial products
 try to focus on employees inner growth with satisfaction
 Try to more appreciate employee from there performance, give them
reward.
 some times in a bank so much of public is there for retailing so that
time much of rush generated so, cash counters can increase for
better facility provides to customers and some free time takes
employee also.
 develop more ATM in rural area for more transactions
 Increase more development plans for employee to improving better
performance.
 decrease stressful enviourment in bank
 Don’t put much pressure on employee; try to decrease
Workload from employee. From this they can satisfy from their work.

63
CONCLUSION

64
CONCLUSION

This training report done by me in HDFC Bank in

Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad branches, totally on retail banking so
through this report I can get knowledge so many related bank
transactions. Thus at last there so many facilities for customers to get
so many benefits from bank.

HDFC bank is very high reputed in market. The bank

provides new product and schemes for customers, very good relations
with their customer and employees also but, less care of their
employee. Bank should be worried for employee’s health and try to
develop employee’s personality. Bank all ready has nice enviourment,
good culture and provides better facility to their employee but they
should be focus on employees inner growth.

Thus, HDFC bank in Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad

also provides better service and good facility to customer and
employee more than other private bank.
