Assignment: Problem and Solution of Dusty environment and Air pollution

Background:

Balochistan covers 43% area of Pakistan. Quetta valley is a capital of

Balochistan and surrounded by Qoh-e-Chiltan, Qoh-e-Murdar, Qoh-e-Takato,
Qoh-e-Zarghoon and others. The Quetta terrain greater part is consisting of
rocks (mountainous and lies an altitude of 1605 meters (5260 ft) above sea level. It is
a small city by area but having more than 3 Million habitants which is also a
major source of pollution problem. Quetta climate is quite different from rest of
the country. It gets quite dusty during the dry season, being an arid zone rain fall
is very low in this region. Temperature can rise up to 40 degrees centigrade in
summers while evenings are cooler and in winter temperature goes down to -10
degrees centigrade.

Presently, Quetta city is receiving extreme cold which does not allow smoke and
air pollution to disperse and in the morning and evening time, citizens have to
suffer difficulty in heaving sigh. Which caused rise in air pollution in the city,
difficulties in heaving sigh due to Co2 and other gases, fine particles in air
present a number of safety issues

Dusty Environment Problems

Internal combustion engine, fuel suppliers, refineries, and other industries
release HC.
Citizens have to suffer difficulty in heaving sigh due to Co2 which is being
produced by heavy vehicles, bricks Ovens, iron and plastic industries.
Carbon dioxide contribute to Global Warming
Co2 and Hydrocarbons (HC) can cause headache, drowsiness, and
blurred vision.
Urbanization is one of major problem which cause dusty environment
Unstructured and narrow roads are contributing in air pollution.
Inhabitants who are leaving near hilly sides are suffering from stone
crusher plants.
 Unplanned residential areas (encroached land) which are mainly
constructed in hurry and without taking any consent from QMC.
Poor quality road construction.
Digging of road is undertaken just after repair or construction of road by
other department which shows lacking of coordination among PTCL, BDA,
B&R and other development agencies.
Deforestation is also playing major role in making environment dusty and
polluted.
Low rainfall cause desertification which is main source of dusty
environment.

Dusty environment solution

Take mask when going outside
Encourage plantation everywhere in the city
Encourage those plant spices which require less quantity of water or can
survive just on rain
Construct wide, high quality and durable road structure
Repair broken roads
Intercity stone crusher plants installation should be banned
Buss stand, track stand and warehouse should be shifted from residential
area of the city in order to overcome the traffic load and air pollution, and
to maintain traffic of light vehicles, and to minimize road destruction.
Modifications to automobile engines will reduce HC and Co2
Ensure and implement building codes.
Slum areas should be re-planned in order for brining all settlements on
same building codes.
