Foreshadowing

What is it?
What is foreshadowing?

We can look at the Latin meaning of


the word to have a better understanding.

Fore=in front of
Shadow=glimpse
Foreshadowing is a literary device
where the author give hints or clues
to future events.It gives us a
"glimpse" of something to happen in
the story "before" it actually
happens.
Foreshadowing does not
only give us clues to plot
development, but it can
also indicate the "mood"
in a piece of literary work.
Let's review!!!
Plot:
The sequence of events in a story.
Mood:
How the story makes the reader feel.
Read the
following passage:

"Dead leaves blew menacingly


around the frail woman as she
slowly crossed the large
street. The stop signal's
flashing red light ominously
shined on her pale face."
