Activity: Pickle Ball Tournament

Targeted Learning Result: The students will work together as a team to score as many points as possible
by targeting a wiffle ball away from their opponents to prevent the opponents from hitting it back.
Length of Period: 45 minutes
Number of Students: 16-24
Equipment: paddles, wiffle balls, 6 poles, 5 nets,
Class Objective: The students will demonstrate hand-eye coordination when volleying a wiffle ball back
and forth over nets with pickle ball rackets.

Pickle Ball Rules

A net is set up with either singles or doubles that volley back and forth using a paddle. On a serve, the
server must hit the ball diagonally onto the other team’s court. The ball must bounce once on each side
before a player’s paddle makes contact with the ball. Players are only allowed in the non-volley zone to
hit a ball that has landed inside there. If the receiving team makes a fault, the serving team gets the point.
If the serving team makes a fault, it becomes the other team’s chance to serve the ball. A team can only
score points when they are serving. If the team’s score is even then that team serves on the right side. If
the team’s score is odd then that team serves on the left side.
