The new TRS STAR Touch controller Enable the Big Screen

It is based on the new Atmel mXT1386 microcon-
troller technology that now supports large format
touchscreens for emerging products including
touch-enabled tablets, smartbooks, mobile Internet
devices (MIDs), Netbooks, PC notebooks and a range
of industrial applications.
With true unlimited touch functionality and stylus
support, the TRS STAR Technology will enable excit-
ing new software applications and user interactions
on one screen.
The mXT1386 is a 1386-node multi-chip solution
(4-chips) which is part of Atmel’s maXTouch™
product platform.
By combining Atmel’s patented Charge Transfer and
powerful 32-bit AVR microcontroller technology,
Atmel’s engineering teams have produced a high
performance architecture which enables unlimited
touch up to 16 touches, fast response time >150Hz
and smart processing of a capacitive touch image to
accurately regenerate and report the user’s interac-
tion with the touchscreen.

Atmel mXT1386 (4 Chip solution)
Atmel maXTouch touchscreen controllers combine
the Atmel patented Charge Transfer and either
8/16-bit or 32-bit Atmel AVR® microcontroller
technology to provide unlimited touch (up to 16
finger multitouch), fast response time, and smart
processing of a capacitive touch image, accurately
regenerating and reporting the user’s interaction
with the touchscreen. Multitouch performance identi-
fies and individually tracks touches, and allows a
range of built-in gestures to be reported to the host
processor.
The mXT224 is a 224-node, single-chip,
highly configurable controller
By supporting grip suppression and palm rejection,
the screen enables unconstrained usage and intui-
tive user experience. The device features multi-touch
performance, enabling touches to be identified and
individually tracked and allowing a range of built-in
gestures to be reported to the host processor.

A high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enables the device
to work well with fingertip touch as well as with a
conductive stylus. It has been designed to work in
demanding, rapidly changing environments, and
with only the touchscreen area being touch-sensitive
allows design freedom to place the chip on the main
board or adjacent to the sensor. Only the touch-
screen area is touch-sensitive, allowing designers
