18:1 ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ַר ִּבים י ִָמים‬ ‫ּוד ַבר‬

ְ ‫יְ הוָה ־‬ ‫ָהיָה‬ ‫אֵ ִלּיָהּו ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫ַּבּׁשָ נָה‬

. And it came to pass

Elijah in the third year,
‫יׁשית‬
ִ ‫ַה ְּׁש ִל‬ ‫לֵ אמֹר‬  ֵ‫ל‬ ‫ֵה ָראֵ ה‬ ‫ְואֶ ְּתנָה אַ ְחאָ ב ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫־ עַ ל ָמטָ ר‬ saying, Go, shew thyself
unto Ahab; and I will send

rain upon the earth.

ֹ ‫ְּב‬ :

And Elijah went to shew
u·ilk alieu l·erauth al - achab u·e·rob chzq b·shmrun : himself unto Ahab. And
and·he-is-going Elijah to·to-nappear-of to Ahab and·the·famine unyielding in·Samaria [there was] a sore famine in
Samaria.
18:3 ‫וַּיִ ְק ָרא‬ ‫עֹ ַב ְדיָהּו ־ אֶ ל אַ ְחאָ ב‬ ‫עַ ל אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ַה ָּביִ ת ־‬ ‫ְועֹ ַב ְדיָהּו‬ ‫ָהיָה‬

And Ahab called
u·iqra achab al - obdieu ashr ol - e·bith u·obdieu eie Obadiah, which [was] the
and·he-is-calling Ahab to Obadiah who over the·household and·Obadiah he-became governor of [his] house.
(Now Obadiah feared the

18:4 ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ְּב ַה ְכ ִרית‬ ‫ִאיז ֶֶבל‬ ‫אֵ ת‬ ‫נְ ִביאֵ י‬ ‫יְ הוָה‬ ‫וַּיִ ַּקח‬

For it was [so], when

and·he-is-becoming in·to-ccut-off-of Jezebel » prophets-of Yahweh and·he-is-taking of the LORD, that Obadiah
took an hundred prophets,
‫עֹ ַב ְדיָהּו‬ ‫ֵמאָ ה‬ ‫נְ ִב ִאים‬ ‫ַוּי ְַח ִּביאֵ ם‬ ‫ח ִמ ִּׁשים‬
ֲ ‫ִאיׁש‬ ‫ַּב ְּמעָ ָרה‬ ‫ְו ִכ ְל ְּכלָ ם‬ and hid them by fifty in a
cave, and fed them with
obdieu mae nbaim u·ichbia·m chmshim aish b·more u·klkl·m
bread and water.)

18:5 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫עֹ ַב ְדיָהּו ־ אֶ ל אַ ְחאָ ב‬  ֵ‫ל‬ ‫ָּבאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫ּכָ ל ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫ַמ ְעיְ נֵי ־‬ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם‬
5
And Ahab said unto
u·iamr achab al - obdieu lk b·artz al - kl - moini e·mim Obadiah, Go into the land,
and·he-is-saying Ahab to Obadiah go-you ! in·the·land to all-of springs-of the·waters unto all fountains of water,
and unto all brooks:
‫ְואֶ ל‬ ‫ּכָ ל‬ ‫ַהּנְ ָח ִלים ־‬ ‫אּולַ י‬ ‫נִ ְמצָ א‬ ‫ָח ִציר‬ ‫ּונְ ַחּיֶה‬ ‫סּוס‬ peradventure we may find
grass to save the horses and
u·al kl - e·nchlim auli nmtza chtzir u·nchie sus
mules alive, that we lose not
and·to all-of the·watercourses perhaps we-shall-find grass and·we-shall-mkeep-alive horse
all the beasts.
‫וָפֶ ֶרד‬ ‫ְול"א‬ ‫נ ְַכ ִרית‬ ‫ֵמ ַה ְּב ֵה ָמה‬ :
u·phrd u·lua nkrith m·e·beme :
and·mule and·not we-shall-ccut-off from·the·beast

18:6 ‫ח ְּלקּו‬
ַ ְ‫וַי‬ ‫לָ ֶהם‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫ֲבר‬
ָ ‫לַ ע‬ ‫ָּבּה ־‬ ‫ָהלַ  אַ ְחאָ ב‬ ‫ְּב ֶד ֶר‬

So they divided the land

and·they-are-mapportioning to·them » the·land to·to-pass-of in·her Ahab he-went in·way throughout it: Ahab went
one way by himself, and
‫ְל ַבּד" אֶ ָחד‬ ‫ְועֹ ַב ְדיָהּו‬  ַ‫ָהל‬ ‫ְל ַבּד" אֶ ָחד ־ ְּב ֶד ֶר‬ : Obadiah went another way
by himself.

And as Obadiah was in

fell on his face, and said,
‫ַוּי ִַּכ ֵרהּו‬ ‫וַּיִ ּפֹל‬ ‫ּפָ נָיו ־ עַ ל‬ ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ַהאַ ָּתה‬ ‫זֶה‬ [Art] thou that my lord
Elijah?

and·he-is-crecognizing·him and·he-is-falling on faces-of·him and·he-is-saying ?·you this

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ "‫ל‬ ‫אָ נִ י‬  ֵ‫ל‬ ‫אמֹר‬

ֹ ‫לַ א‬ ‫ִהּנֵה‬ ‫ אֵ ִלּיָהּו‬:

And he answered him, I
u·iamr l·u ani lk amr l·adni·k ene alieu : [am]: go, tell thy lord,
and·he-is-saying to·him I go-you ! say-you ! to·lords-of·you behold ! Elijah Behold, Elijah [is here].

18:9 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ֶמה‬ ‫אתי‬
ִ ָ‫ָחט‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ֹתן אַ ָּתה ־‬
ֵ ‫נ‬ ‫ ־ אֶ ת‬3‫עַ ְב ְּד‬ ‫ְּביַד‬ ‫אַ ְחאָ ב ־‬

And he said, What have I
u·iamr me chtathi ki - athe nthn ath - obd·k b·id - achab sinned, that thou wouldest
and·he-is-saying what ? I-sinned that you giving » servant-of·you in·hand-of Ahab deliver thy servant into the
hand of Ahab, to slay me?

[As] the LORD thy God

life Yahweh Elohim-of·you if there-is nation and·kingdom which not he-sent lord-of·me kingdom, whither my lord
hath not sent to seek thee:
‫ׁשָ ם‬ 3‫ְל ַב ֶּק ְׁש‬ ‫ְואָ ְמרּו‬ ‫אָ יִ ן‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫ְו ִה ְׁש ִּב‬ ‫ַה ַּמ ְמלָ כָ ה ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫ְואֶ ת‬ ‫־‬ and when they said, [He is]
not [there]; he took an oath

of the kingdom and nation,

that they found thee not.
‫ַהּג"י‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ל ֹא‬ ‫יִ ְמצָ אֶ ּכָ ה‬ :

the·nation that not he-is-finding·you

18:11 ‫ּתה‬
ָ ַ‫ְוע‬ ‫א ֵמר אַ ָּתה‬
ֹ  ֵ‫ל‬ ‫אמֹר‬
ֱ 3‫דנֶי‬
ֹ ‫לַ א‬ ‫ִהּנֵה‬ ‫ אֵ ִלּיָהּו‬:

And now thou sayest,
u·othe athe amr lk amr l·adni·k ene alieu : Go, tell thy lord, Behold,
and·now you saying go-you ! say-you ! to·lords-of·you behold ! Elijah Elijah [is here].

18:12 ‫היָה‬
ָ ‫ְו‬ ‫אֲנִ י‬  ֵ‫אֵ ל‬ ‫ֵמ ִא ָּת‬ ‫רּוח‬
ַ ‫ְו‬ ‫יְ הוָה‬ 3ֲ‫יִ ּׂשָ א‬ ‫עַ ל‬

And it shall come to
u·eie ani alk m·ath·k u·ruch ieue isha·k ol pass, [as soon as] I am gone
and·he-becomes I I-shall-go from·with·you and·spirit-of Yahweh he-shall-carry·you on from thee, that the Spirit of
the LORD shall carry thee
‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫אֵ ָדע ־ ל ֹא‬ ‫אתי‬
ִ ‫ּוב‬
ָ ‫ְל ַהּגִ יד‬ ‫ְלאַ ְחאָ ב‬ ‫ְול ֹא‬ 3ֲ‫יִ ְמצָ א‬ whither I know not; and
[so] when I come and tell
ashr la - ado u·bathi l·egid l·achab u·la imtza·k
Ahab, and he cannot find
which not I-am-knowing and·I-come to·to-ctell-of to·Ahab and·not he-is-finding·you
thee, he shall slay me: but I
thy servant fear the LORD
‫ַוה ֲָרגָנִ י‬ 3‫ְועַ ְב ְּד‬ ‫י ֵָרא‬ ‫יְ הוָה ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫ִמּנְ עֻ ָרי‬ : from my youth.

ִ ‫עָ ִׂש‬ ‫הרֹג‬
ֲ ‫ַּב‬ ‫ִאיז ֶֶבל‬ ‫אֵ ת‬ ‫נְ ִביאֵ י‬

Was it not told my lord

LORD, how I hid an
‫יְ הוָה‬ ‫וָאַ ְח ִּבא‬ ‫ִמּנְ ִביאֵ י‬ ‫יְ הוָה‬ ‫ֵמאָ ה‬ ‫ִאיׁש‬ ‫ח ִמ ִּׁשים‬
ֲ ‫ח ִמ ִּׁשים‬
ֲ ‫ִאיׁש‬ ‫ַּב ְּמעָ ָרה‬ hundred men of the
LORD'S prophets by fifty
ieue u·achba m·nbiai ieue mae aish chmshim chmshim aish b·more
in a cave, and fed them with
Yahweh and·I-am-chiding from·prophets-of Yahweh hundred man fifty fifty man in·the·cave
bread and water?
‫ָואֲכַ ְל ְּכלֵ ם‬ ‫לֶ ֶחם‬ ‫ָמיִ ם‬
ָ ‫ו‬ :

18:14 ‫ּתה‬
ָ ַ‫ְוע‬ ‫א ֵמר אַ ָּתה‬
ֹ  ֵ‫ל‬ ‫אמֹר‬

ֹ ‫לַ א‬ ‫ִהּנֵה‬ ‫אֵ ִלּיָהּו‬ ‫ַוה ֲָרגָנִ י‬ : ‫ס‬

And now thou sayest,

18:15 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫אֵ ִלּיָהּו‬ ‫ַחי‬ ‫יְ הוָה‬ ‫ְצ ָבא"ת‬ ‫עָ ַמ ְד ִּתי אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ְלפָ נָיו‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ַהּי"ם‬

And Elijah said, [As] the
u·iamr alieu chi ieue tzbauth ashr omdthi l·phni·u ki e·ium LORD of hosts liveth,
and·he-is-saying Elijah life Yahweh-of hosts whom I-stand to·faces-of·him that the·day before whom I stand, I will
surely shew myself unto
‫אֵ ָראֶ ה‬ ‫אֵ לָ יו‬ : him to day.

So Obadiah went to meet

and·he-is-going Obadiah to·to-meet-of Ahab and·he-is-ctelling to·him and·he-is-going Ahab went to meet Elijah.

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫אֵ לָ יו אַ ְחאָ ב‬ ‫ַהאַ ָּתה‬

. And it came to pass,

and·he-is-becoming as·to-see-of Ahab » Elijah and·he-is-saying Ahab to·him ?·you Ahab said unto him, [Art]
thou he that troubleth
‫זֶה‬ ‫עֹ כֵ ר‬ ‫ יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל‬: Israel?

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ל ֹא‬ ‫עָ כַ ְר ִּתי‬ ‫יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫ִאם‬ ‫ּובית אַ ָּתה ־‬
ֵ 3‫אָ ִבי‬

And he answered, I have

and·he-is-saying not I-troubled » Israel but rather you and·house-of father-of·you and thy father's house, in
that ye have forsaken the
‫עז ְָבכֶ ם‬
ֲ ‫ַּב‬ ‫ִמ ְצ"ת ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫יְ הוָה‬  ֶ‫ַּתל‬
ֵ ‫ו‬ ‫אַ ח ֲֵרי‬ ‫ַה ְּבעָ ִלים‬ : commandments of the
LORD, and thou hast
b·ozb·km ath - mtzuth ieue u·thlk achri e·bolim :
followed Baalim.
in·to-forsake-of·you(p) » instructions-of Yahweh and·you-are-going after the·Baalim

18:19 ‫ּתה‬
ָ ַ‫ְוע‬ ‫ְׁשלַ ח‬ ‫ְקבֹץ‬ ‫אֵ לַ י‬ ‫ּכָ ל ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל ־‬ ‫ַהר ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫ַהּכַ ְר ֶמל‬

Now therefore send,
u·othe shlch qbtz al·i ath - kl - ishral al - er e·krml [and] gather to me all Israel
and·now send-you ! convene-you ! to·me » all-of Israel to mountain-of the·Carmel unto mount Carmel, and the

ֲ ‫ַו‬ ‫ּונְ ִביאֵ י‬ ‫ָהאֲׁשֵ ָרה‬ hundred and fifty, and the

ְ ִ‫וַּי‬ ‫ְּבכָ ל אַ ְחאָ ב‬ ‫ְּבנֵי ־‬ ‫יִ ְׂש ָראֵ ל‬ ‫וַּיִ ְקּבֹץ‬ ‫יאים ־ אֶ ת‬
ִ ‫ַהּנְ ִב‬

So Ahab sent unto all the
u·ishlch achab b·kl - bni ishral u·iqbtz ath - e·nbiaim children of Israel, and
and·he-is-sending Ahab in·all-of sons-of Israel and·he-is-convening » the·prophets gathered the prophets
together unto mount
‫ַהר ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫ַהּכַ ְר ֶמל‬ : Carmel.

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫עַ ד‬ ‫ָמ ַתי ־‬ ‫אַ ֶּתם‬

. And Elijah came unto
u·igsh alieu al - kl - e·om u·iamr od - mthi athm all the people, and said,
and·he-is-coming-close Elijah to all-of the·people and·he-is-saying until when ? you(p) How long halt ye between
two opinions? if the LORD
‫ּפ ְֹס ִחים‬ ‫ְׁש ֵּתי ־ עַ ל‬ ‫ַה ְּס ִע ִּפים‬ ‫יְ הוָה ־ ִאם‬ ‫הים‬4ֱ
ִ ‫ָהא‬ ‫ְלכּו‬ ‫אַ ח ֲָריו‬ ‫ְו ִאם‬ ‫־‬ [be] God, follow him: but if
Baal, [then] follow him.

18:22 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫אֵ ִלּיָהּו‬ ‫ָהעָ ם ־ אֶ ל‬ ‫אֲנִ י‬ ‫נ"ת ְר ִּתי‬
ַ ‫נ ִָביא‬ ‫לַ יהוָה‬ ‫ְל ַב ִּדי‬

Then said Elijah unto the
u·iamr alieu al - e·om ani nuthrthi nbia l·ieue l·bd·i people, I, [even] I only,
and·he-is-saying Elijah to the·people I I-am-left prophet to·Yahweh to·alone-of·me remain a prophet of the
LORD; but Baal's prophets
‫ּונְ ִביאֵ י‬ ‫ַה ַּבעַ ל‬ ‫ֵמא"ת ־ אַ ְר ַּבע‬ ‫ח ִמ ִּׁשים‬
ֲ ‫ַו‬ ‫ ִאיׁש‬: [are] four hundred and fifty
men.

18:23 ‫ְויִ ְּתנּו‬ ‫לָ נּו ־‬ ‫ְׁשנַיִ ם‬ ‫ּפָ ִרים‬ ‫ְויִ ְבחֲרּו‬ ‫לָ ֶהם‬ ‫ַהּפָ ר‬

Let them therefore give

And call ye on the name

And it came to pass at

and·he-is-becoming in·the·noons and·he-is-mtrifling in·them Elijah and·he-is-saying them, and said, Cry aloud:
for he [is] a god; either he is
‫ִק ְראּו‬ ‫ְבק"ל‬ ‫ִּכי ּגָד"ל ־‬ ‫הים ־‬4ֱ
ִ ‫ִּכי הּוא א‬ ‫יח‬
ַ ‫ִׂש‬ ‫ְו ִכי‬ ‫ִׂשיג ־‬ "‫ל‬ talking, or he is pursuing, or
he is in a journey, [or]

And they cried aloud,

and·they-are-calling in·voice loud and·they-are-slashing-themselves as·custom-of·them their manner with knives
and lancets, till the blood
‫ַּבח ֲָרב"ת‬ ‫ּוב ְר ָמ ִחים‬
ָ ‫עַ ד‬ ‫ְׁשפָ  ־‬ ‫ָּדם ־‬ ‫יהם‬
ֶ ֵ‫עֲל‬ : gushed out upon them.

[there was] neither voice,

And he put the wood in

wood, and said, Fill four

And said to his servant,

ָ ‫ְמ‬ ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ nothing. And he said, Go
again seven times.

‫ׁשֻ ב‬ ‫ׁשֶ ַבע‬ ‫ ְּפעָ ִמים‬:

18:44 ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ַּב ְּׁש ִב ִעית‬ ‫ֹאמר‬

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ִהּנֵה‬ ‫עָ ב ־‬ ‫ְקטַ ּנָה‬ ‫ְּככַ ף‬ ‫־‬

And it came to pass at

‫ִאיׁש‬ ‫עֹ לָ ה‬ ‫ִמּיָם‬ ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫עֲלֵ ה‬ ‫אמֹר‬
ֱ ‫אסֹר אַ ְחאָ ב ־ אֶ ל‬
ֱ like a man's hand. And he
said, Go up, say unto Ahab,
aish ole m·im u·iamr ole amr al - achab asr
Prepare [thy chariot], and
man ascending from·sea and·he-is-saying rise-up-you ! say-you ! to Ahab hitch-up-you !
get thee down, that the rain
stop thee not.
‫ו ֵָרד‬ ‫ְול ֹא‬ ‫יַעַ צָ ְרכָ ה‬ ‫ַהּגָׁשֶ ם‬ :

18:45 ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫עַ ד‬ ‫ּכֹה ־‬ ‫ְועַ ד‬ ‫ּכֹה ־‬ ‫ְו ַהּׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬ ‫ִה ְת ַק ְּדרּו‬

And it came to pass in
