MYP Student Led Conferences

What is a student‐led conference?
A student‐led conference is an opportunity for students to share their learning experiences with their parents
in school for an allocated time.
Who does the student‐led conference involve?
The SLC involves the student and the parent or parents.
How does the student‐led conference take place?
o The student‐led conference takes place in the Houseroom class.
o It takes between 30 and 45 minutes.
o The student‐led conference can be carried out in the mother tongue of the student and parent with
the focus on understanding.
o The student leads the conference by explaining their learning to the parents. The focus is on the
evidence of learning and how it links to the eight learning outcomes.
o The parents’ role is to support and encourage their child and ask appropriate questions while the
conference is taking place.
What is the purpose of the student‐led conferences?
• To promote home and school partnership
• To increase the students’ responsibility for their learning and to promote reflection
• To demonstrate the IB learner profile
• To give the parents a taste of the diversity of our programme at NIST
• To celebrate achievement
• To encourage two‐way communication and interaction between the student and parents around their
child’s learning

The value of the student‐led conference is that the students reflect on and consolidate their learning while at the same
time, share the responsibility of informing you, the parents, of their achievements.

Please note: If you have children in the elementary school, their conferences will be scheduled first and you can then
arrange a suitable time for your children in the secondary school.
