NIA chargesheets 17 SIMI activists Nobel laureate

for organising secret camp

Kochi: The National Investi-
gation Agency (NIA) on Thurs-
day filed a chargesheet against
17 persons for organising a se-
cret camp of the banned Stu-
dents Islamic Movement of In-
dia (SIMI) at Panayikulam,
near Aluva, on Aug 15, 2006.
The chargesheet filed be-
fore the CBI special court judge
S Vjaykumar here revealed
that the camp was held at the
Happy Auditorium. K N Ra-
jesh, a sub-inspector attached
to the police station raided the
camp following a tip-off. He
found 17 persons attending the
camp and some of them were
making inflammatory speech-
es. Pro-Pakistani, anti-govern-
ment, seditious and provoca-
tive books and pamphlets were
seized from the accused, said
the chargesheet by Lhari
Dorgee Latoo, superintendent
of police, NIA, New Delhi.
Most of the accused were
arrested at different times but
all of them were let off on bail.

While one of the accused
Rasheed turned approver, an-
other accused, Nasser, was ab-
sconding. According to NIA,
he was in the Gulf and efforts
were on for his extradition.
The chargesheet was filed
after examining 89 witnesses
and 69 documents . “During a
thorough and exhaustive in-
vestigation conducted by the
NIA, it was established that the

Rasik, Ansar, Nizamudeen,
Shammi, Shameer, Abdul Ha-
keem, Nizar, Mohayudheen
Kutty, Muhammed Nissar,
Ashkar, Nissar, Salih, Hashim,
Riyas, Muhammed Naisam
and Nissar — entered into a
criminal conspiracy to advo-
cate, incite and abet unlawful
activities for secession of Kash-
mir from India and to bring ha-
tred and contempt towards the
government of India and in
furtherance of the said con-
spiracy, they committed the
crime,” the NIA said in a press
release posted on the Ministry
of Home Affairs website.
They have been charged un-
der various Acts and provi-
sions such as 120 B (criminal
conspiracy), 124 A (sedition) of
the IPC, 10 a(i), 10 a(ii) and Sec-
tion 13 (1)(b) of Unlawful Ac-
tivities (Prevention) Act.
The state police had ar-
rested five persons initially and
had let off the remaining par-
ticipants in the camp. Two of
the accused — Ansar and
Shaduli — were picked up by
the Rajasthan police later for
masterminding the Jaipur
blasts which killed about 80
people. Another accused was
detained by the Karnataka
cops after the July 2008 serial
blasts. It also came to light lat-
er that Shaduli’s brother, Shi-
bly Peediackal Abdul, was one
of SIMI’s key operatives in
south India. A wanted man in
the 2006 Mumbai serial blasts,
he was arrested in Madhya
Pradesh in March 2008 in what
was a major crackdown on the
outfit’s leadership.
Ansar Moulavi and Shaduli
also attended a secret training
camp held by the SIMI in the
tourist haven of Vagamon in
Kerala’s Idukki district in De-
cember 2007, a year after they
were arrested in Panayikku-
lam and released on bail.
The case which was al-
legedly derailed by the Kerala
police had attracted national
attention forcing the govern-
ment to hand it over to the NIA
after a TOI report in August
2008, in the aftermath of the
Jaipur and Bangalore blasts.

the city of his alma mater,
was chief minister Narendra
Modi.
Sources told TOI, efforts
had been made to get Venki to
meet Modi in Gandhinagar or
Vadodara, but he is said to
have refused apparently be-
cause of the CM’s tarnished
image due to the 2002 riots.The
only picture where Modi and
Venki were ‘seen’ together
were a couple of posters put
up outside the hotel where he
stayed and the airport, which
showed Vadodara mayor in the
centre, flanked by Venki and
Modi.
According to sources, “Ef-
forts had been made by the
state education department
and the CM’s office to arrange
a meeting between the two, for
30 minutes or so, but it did not
materialise, because Venki did
not agree.’’

(o) Willingness to Execute Proiects in all Terrains and Regions: The company will clearly mention whether it is
interested in getting registered in the national list (pan-India) or in the regional list (i.e. only for Rajasthan and Punjab
region) against each item for which the registration has been applied for. It may be noted that applying for registration
