The building is divided into sections; each section of the space, or node, is
Project where the main activity takes place. These zones are further separated by the
edges; the edges define the boundaries of the nodes and connect the layers
of the space, thus performing as a navigation tool. As the nodes and edges
CBI Showroom progress through CBI, the visual sense of a vista begins to form. As one enters
Fall 2009 the space, the branding of CBI serves as the iconic view, whereas upon exiting,
the view of the Durham Post Office reigns superior.

This system of disaster relief shelters is a response to the Chilean earthquake. Simple
Project in materials and flexible, it will provide quick assembled, temporary relief for the
victims. Each unit relies on a pole system, or the exoskeleton of the shelter. The
Chile Homes vertical elements are supported by the poles, thus making the horizontal elements
non-load bearing. Each unit houses two people with a central community unit
Spring 2010 shared by all. The end result is a system that is not only architecturally connected,
but socially as well.

the old, crumbling home. I needed to encourage the town to want to save this home and
transform it into something that would, in turn, give back to the community. A local coffee shop
Project owner had recently shown interest in converting the home into a cafe. My job included measur-
Internship ing the home and then transforming it into a coffee shop that celebrated the history of the site.
In the end, my projection of the home aims to excite members of the community, thus making
Summer 2010 them want to fight to save this piece of history.
