South East Asia’s X-ray market reached ~USD90 million in 2007 with strong

growth led by Thailand and Vietnam

Clearstate’s tracking of the medical devices market in South East Asia reveals that the region’s
market for general and cardiovascular X-ray equipment reached USD90 million in 2007. The
market is set to grow at a rapid pace of 12%, reaching USD115 million in 2010.

Toshiba. Japanese brand Shimadzu was found to be the market leader within the conventional
and mobile X-ray segments, while Siemens leads the growing digital radiography segment.
Philips and Siemens are the major players in cardiovascular X-ray across South East Asia.

Clearstate’s study found over 10,000 X-ray units installed in South East Asia. Conventional
and mobile X-rays make up the bulk of the installations detected at over 1,500 healthcare
facilities in the region. The larger markets of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia have taken the
lead in introducing digital radiography machines. These countries also account for the bulk of
cardiovascular X-ray units in the region.

SEA X-ray database planned

Following the highly successful IVD Gateway, Clearstate will add X-ray to its pioneering line of
usage and demand pattern databases this year. The X-ray database will compile data
collected from over 1,500 hospitals in South East Asia, and will include granular information on
unit installation, penetration of key brands by segment, region and unit location. The large user
size of the database (nearly one-third of the relevant universe of facilities) will need little
extrapolation and will accurately reflect real usage and consumption of X-ray devices in South
East Asia.
