Mennonite Economic Development Associates - Pakistan

INTRODUCTION:

JOB TITLE: Finance Officer

REPORTS TO: Finance Manager

DUTY STATION: Islamabad

A. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION


The Finance Officer is responsible for maintaining financial and accounting services in order to
meet mandatory requirements and support operations.

B. SCOPE
The Finance Officer reports to the Finance Manager and is responsible for preparing financial
statements, maintaining cash/Bank controls and preparing the payroll
The Finance Officer must work within the Financial Management policies, Organizational policies
and procedures and in compliance with all Territorial Acts and Legislation.
C. RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer and monitor the financial system in order to ensure that the organization’s finances are
maintained in an accurate and timely manner

Specific Responsibilities:

Implement financial policies and procedures


Assist with preparation of the budget
Establish and maintain cash/bank controls, monitor cash reserves and ensure the safeguarding of
all funds
Prepare and reconcile bank statements
Processes invoices and all other claims for payment
Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the computerized accounting system
Deduction and depositing of tax withheld and submission of corresponding statements in
accordance with income tax ordinance 2001 and FBR.
Prepare/update monthly financial statements and reconcile support schedules.
Assist with the audits
Manage the filing, storage and security of documents
effectively respond to the queries
Process Payroll
Verify and code timesheets and hours worked
Calculate employee salaries, deductions and contributions
Ensure timely transfer of salaries in the bank accounts
Perform other related duties as required

D. Qualification and experience required


Masters degree or equivalent in accounting.
At least 3 years of experience in finance preferably with the development sector.

E. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Understanding and ability to work with computerized accounting. ACCPac experience will be an
advantage.
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, donor regulations specifically
USAID and/or CIDA, local tax laws, financial statements
Accounting and bookkeeping skills
Analytical and problem solving skills
Effective verbal and written communications skills in English and Urdu
Honest and trustworthy and be respectful
possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
Self motivated, team player and demonstrate strong work ethics
Ability to work under stress and tight deadlines
