The Class of 2011

What is It?
A program under which the companies on the Board of the New Brunswick Information Technology
Council (NBITC) make a commitment to hire up to 25 high-school students from the 2011 high-
school graduating classes on their completion of a mutually agreeable degree or diploma program
from a New Brunswick post-secondary institution.

Who is eligible to apply?

Any New Brunswick high-school student graduating this year.

What Degree or Diploma Programs are eligible?

Almost any 2 to 4 year Information and Communications Technology (ICT) degree or diploma could
be eligible. Applicants should indicate what program they are planning to study as part of their
application and will be informed at that time whether or not it meets the needs of the
participanting companies . Examples of programs that could be considered include Information
Technology, Electronics Engineering, and some Media Arts Diploma Programs from NBCC/CCNB and
other colleges; as well as Computer Science, Information Systems, and Engineering degree
Programs from UNB, UNBSJ, Mount Allison and l’Université de Moncton. How many or how few
candidates will be accepted from these programs is strictly a function of the positions that will most
likely be available 2-4 years out in the participating companies.

How Do I Apply?
Those interested should complete the attached application and send it, along with a high-school
transcript, resume and one page letter explaining why they have chosen this particular program and
what they hope to do with the skills they learn from it upon graduation, to:

NBITC - Class of 2011,

46 Dineen Drive,
Fredericton, NB,
E3B 9W4

Or e-mail to nbitc@nbitc.ca
Applications close on May 30th, 2011

How will successful candidates be selected?

The NBITC will conduct an initial screening based on how well applicant’s interests and the programs
they have selected align with the expected job requirements. A short list of candidates will be
selected for interviews. Once the interviews have been completed, job offers will be extended to up
to 25 candidates. The selected candidates will be notified by letter and e-mail no later than June
30th, 2011, and will have one week to accept/reject the offer.

What will the offer consist of?

The offer will consist of a formal commitment, made collectively by the Board of the NBITC, to hire
the selected candidate upon graduation for a full-time position, and at a market competitive salary.
The work offered will be consistent with the degree/diploma indicated on the candidates
application, and will be for one of the companies making up the NBITC Board, although the specific
company will not be named until graduation. The offer is conditional on the candidate:

 Graduating in good academic standing from the degree or diploma program identified in
their application;
 Completing the degree/diploma in the normal period allocated
 Placing in the top 50% of their graduating class.

What happens when I graduate?

On confirmation that the selected candidate has successfully completed the degree or diploma
identified in their application in the normally allotted time, is in good standing with the institution
granting the degree, and has finished in the top 50% of their graduating class, one of the NBITC
Board member companies will extend a formal job offer. This offer will be for full-time employment
for a position consistent with the field of study just completed, and with compensation and benefits
consistent with those commonly found in the New Brunswick market for similar positions. The start
date will be within 4 weeks of graduation.

The offer recipient may accept or reject the offer. Regardless of whether the offer is accepted or
rejected, the NBITC will be considered to have fulfilled its obligation to the student once an offer has
been made.

What kind of jobs will the offers be for?

The jobs offered will be consistent with the field of study of the candidate and could cover almost
any entry level position in ICT including software developers/programmers, web design and
development, media specialists, quality assurance, network planning and support, business analysts,
and others.

Will I be required to accept the job offer after I graduate?

You will be free to accept or reject the offer. Should you reject, the NBITC will be under no further
obligation to provide you with employment.

Will there be Summer Employment and Co-op Work-terms?

All the companies participating recognize it will be in their best interest to provide successful
candidates with the opportunity for summer work, and/or Co-op or Work-term placements if they
are part of their program of study. While this does not represent a guarantee, it is very likely that
the companies involved will participate in this manner.

What Companies might I end up working for?
