4th International Contaminated Site Remediation Conference
(11–15 September 2011)

On behalf of CRC CARE and the Australian Remediation Industry Cluster (ARIC), I invite you to join us for the biennial
CleanUp conference to be held at the Hilton Adelaide hotel in South Australia.

CleanUp 11 will combine the 6th International Workshop on Chemical Bioavailability in the Terrestrial Environment
(7–9 September 2011) and the 4th International Contaminated Site Remediation Conference (11–15 September 2011).

The CleanUp Conference is the premier Australian-based conference related to the contaminated site and remediation
industry.

It is expected that CleanUp 2011 will have an attendance comparable to the 2009 conference, which attracted over
500 scientists, engineers, regulators, and other environmental professionals from 25 countries. Delegates were able
to promote technology transfer and exchange information, innovations and developments in fundamental and applied
environmental research towards the assessment, management and remediation of environmental contamination.

The organising committee is pleased to again have secured the Hilton Adelaide hotel as the host venue for the events.
This medium sized venue enables attendees to focus on the tightly paced program and exhibits, and to easily meet and
share ideas and information.

Ample networking will be possible with a full complement of lunches, receptions, and other meals being served during
the breaks in the program. After the sessions conclude each evening there will be poster sessions and networking
drinks, with the conference dinners again expected to be a highlight of the social program. At the conclusion of each
day’s activities, conference participants will find ample sightseeing, shopping and dining options nearby. Located on
central Victoria Square, the Hilton Adelaide hotel is in the heart of Adelaide city.

6th International Workshop on
Chemical Bioavailability in the
Terrestrial Environment
7-9 September 2011
Bioavailability of chemicals is impacted by many factors
in both the environment in which the chemical exists and
within the target organisms. There are many gaps in our
knowledge of how these factors interact and how they
impact human health and exposure risk.
The 2011 Workshop will provide the opportunity for
scientists, environmental consultants and regulators to
exchange knowledge and experience on contaminant
bioavailability.
Themes include:
• Bioavailability assessment
• Bioavailability reduction
• Incorporating bioavailability in risk management.
This event will include invited keynote addresses,
platform and poster presentations. Platform
presentations will be scheduled in two concurrent
daytime tracks culminating in a combined panel
discussion on the Friday afternoon. There will also
be breakout sessions to enable more detailed
discussions.
4th International Contaminated Site
Remediation Conference
11-15 September 2011
It is expected that more than 500 scientists, engineers,
regulators and other environmental professionals
representing universities, government (site management
and regulatory agencies) and R&D and manufacturing
firms from more than 20 countries will gather in
Adelaide for this event. The Contaminated Site
Remediation Conference will build on the highly
successful Contamination CleanUp 07 and CleanUp 09
Conferences.
Pre-conference short courses and workshops will again
be held on the Sunday prior to the commencement of
the technical conference program. The 2011 technical
conference program has been extended to four days and
will again cover themes relating to the assessment and
remediation of contaminants.
Major conference themes include:
• Innovative site characterisation, assessment
and monitoring
• Minimising uncertainty in risk assessment
• Best practice policy – putting guidance in place
• Cleaning up – making remediation effective
• Waste management – adding value to waste, or
value out of waste.

There will be a particular emphasis on current and

emerging environmental issues facing the Asia-Pacific
region. The diverse and inspiring program will feature
200 speakers and 50 poster presentations, an Industry
Summit, trade exhibition, poster session and field tours.

Call for Papers – Now open

The organising committee is now inviting abstracts for the 4th International Contaminated Site Remediation
Conference and the 6th International Workshop on Chemical Bioavailability in the Terrestrial Environment.
Authors are welcome to submit abstracts for either or both events.

Location
Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is a well-planned, elegant city located close to the coast and surrounded by
beautiful parklands. The city sits on the River Torrens and is renowned for its beaches, gardens, churches and stately
Victorian architecture. Adelaide is also a wonderful cultural centre, with world class art galleries, museums, the biennial
Festival of Arts and numerous music, food and wine festivals. Several world-renowned wine districts are within 1-2
hours drive.
