CSCMP Workshops to Focus on Supply Chain Performance

Process Standards and Performance-Based Logistics to Be Subjects

Lombard, Illinois USA (July 22, 2008)—Better supply chain performance and the re-
sulting financial benefits will be the subjects of two professional education workshops in August
from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP).
“More and more companies are looking to their supply chains for financial contributions
through better performance. These two workshops were designed to offer a blueprint for how
those contributions can be achieved,” said Rick Blasgen, president and CEO of CSCMP. Both
events will be held at CSCMP headquarters in Lombard, Illinois.
Performance-based logistics (PBL), a relatively new concept in supply chain manage-
ment, focuses on new approaches to driving improvements in traditional outsourcing relation-
ships. “The business model is very different in that the process is much more collaborative and
designed to align and accomplish goals with incentives for both the purchaser and supplier of
services,” said Kate Vitasek. Vitasek is one of the workshop’s instructors and the lead faculty
and researcher for The University of Tennessee’s performance-based logistics programs.
Karl Manrodt, associate professor at Georgia Southern University and co-director of
the Southern Center for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation, is the second faculty member.
The workshop is scheduled for August 13.
The second workshop, titled Process Standards, will be held August 14-15. The two-day
workshop will focus on self-assessment of internal processes, defining minimum performance
expectations, and process benchmarking. Attendees will learn to identify potential gaps in proc-
esses through real world examples, interactive case studies, and group discussions.
The workshop will be led by Vitasek and Mike Ledyard. Vitasek is the author of the
workshops’ textbooks. Ledyard is a partner at Supply Chain Visions, and an author and fre-
quent speaker on process assessment and measurement.
Founded in 1963, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals is the pre-
eminent association for individuals involved in supply chain management. CSCMP provides
global educational, career development, and networking opportunities to over 9,000 members.
