Converged BIOS
Beginning Summer ‘10 Cycle, all Consumer 6J Products will transition to Version 6 BIOS; most but not all of
the SBSO 7F Products will also roll to Version 6. Eventually all DPC motherboards will be using Version 6
BIOS.
This change is directly tied to the introduction of the new factory tool sets, including IRS+ and the new
Recovery process.
The BIOS is not compatible between the two versions for the end user on a working system. The BIOS can
be flashed between versions in preparation for use in a system.
BIOS’s that are on the web will not allow a V5 BIOS to be flashed with a V6
This is aimed at those “power” users who will search and try the latest driver
The softpaq process will not allow a flash to take place, no damage done
Service centers & partners will have the ability to flash from V5 to V6 OR V6 to V5 via a switch in the
command line. This switch is using /x /n option during flashing. Care must be exhibited when using this
option as there is no pre-check to confirm the correct BIOS ROM is being used. The use of an incorrect
BIOS ROM will render the board useless. These instructions apply only to AMI based boards, which are a
majority of DPC boards.
This converged BIOS also provides the interface for DMI information.
In order to enter the BIOS and edit the DMI information, the use of Ctrl-F10 is required. Using F10 only will
bring up the DMI information in read-only.

Opening BIOS Page
The BIOS has a new field named "System IDs" in the Main Setup page as follows:
Pressing an <enter> key with the cursor on the System IDs field will open a second-level Setup page
displaying the following Setup fields with the data read from the corresponding SMBIOS Types/fields:
Product Name, Serial Number, UUID, SKU Number, Family Name, Asset Tag, Feature Byte, Build ID

Converged Motherboards
CSB Motherboards will roll part numbers due to BIOS and the addition of bumpers on the board.
Beginning with V6 BIOS, the SSID of the motherboard will be displayed rather than the motherboard code
name in programs such as System Information.

Flexbuild Support Label
Label Description
This is a label affixed to the chassis which will carry software Build ID and DMI information which will
enable a field support technician to reestablish these settings when replacing a motherboard.
Label Format
The label information will be represented in three sections. Spaces are only included in the label text to
make the label easier to read by the support technician. The label may contain a barcode that identifies the
label as the Flexbuild Support label.
Section one is for the Build IDs. These will begin on the first line and be preceded by the text BID=. The
format will be a single build ID consisting of an alphanumeric string followed by localization options #S---
and #D---. The build ID should be printed in a single string with no spaces. The characters “**” as denoted
on the label should be used.
Section two is the Type 11 DMI information. The data will be preceded by the text FeatureByte=. Each
option is represented by two characters. The options will be listed in groups of two. Each group of two
options will be separated by a minimum of one space. The options will be followed by a minimum of one
space, a period and a two character CRC checksum. In addition to the printed characters, this information
may also be printed in 2D matrix barcode for ease of verification.
Section three is the SKU model number. This will occupy the last line of the label and will be included on
the far right of the label (right justified). Based on the product line, it will either be a short name (p6450n)
or a long name (HP Pavilion p6450n)
Label Examples:
BID=10WWFSUW3**#SABA#DABA
p6450n
BID=10WWFSUW3**#SABA#DABA
HP Pavilion p6450n

Support Label
This is a label found on Consumer Products, at the top front of the non-removable side panel of towers and
on the rear of AIO’s.
Below is an example.
These labels should be used as source for Serial Number and Product Number.

Support Information Interface
Below are screenshots of the Support Information interface. These are displayed by the keystrokes Ctl-Alt-S
for the first and then Ctl-Shift-S for the second. There is also a Start menu option in PC Help & Tools. This is
displaying the information that is entered into DMI in the BIOS. This information has been part of Consumer
builds for many years. With the new factory tools, it will also be part of the Commercial builds.

Re-flash instructions:
These instructions are dependent on the process requirements of the region in regards to flashing BIOS.
The basic instruction is to update the motherboard to the latest BIOS with the
use of command switches. A Version 6 motherboard must be re-flashed in order to remove the read-only
Type 11 strings. This has to be done with a DOS flash utility.
Phoenix BIOS
Capirona (Amazon) is the only motherboard affected which does not use AMI BIOS, and has a different
command string. Use this string for both scenarios.
