The nature of the work at BCG varies on a project to project basis. Since August 2010 I have worked in
several initiatives focusing on corporate strategy, consumer understanding and sales force effectiveness in the
insurance and consumer goods industries.

As a senior associate my main role is to gain market insight by gathering and analyzing available data.
However, since my second project, I have been taking more responsibilities such as designing
recommendations and action plans based on the outcome of my analyses and overall understanding of the
market.

The results I've achieved thus far include designing a forecasting tool to model growth and impact of initiatives
in several geographies as a part of redesigning the 5 year strategy for the "foods branch" of a consumer goods
company in Latin America; modeling & pricing viable entry opportunities and the impact of potential synergies
considering the competitive landscape and current market dynamics of the Mexican industry for a foreign
health insurance player; assessing the suitability of introducing a direct sales channel for a major player in the
life insurance industry and outlining the cost optimization work plan for the multiline operations of an insurance
company in Mexico.

As a senior associate at BCG I haven't had the opportunity to supervise other employees; however, in my job
as an actuarial analyst with Watson Wyatt I was in charge of supervising the work of small groups of junior
associates (2 to 3) as a part of the overall client valuation efforts.

After graduation, I joined Watson Wyatt Worldwide as an actuarial analyst in New York City (October, 2005).
There, my responsibilities included estimating the investment targets needed to keep our client's pension plans
viable. The idea of matching uncertain cash flows with uncertain claims awakened my curiosity for the
challenge in allocating resources in an uncertain environment.

Driven by my curiosity, I looked for graduate programs with an option to specialize in combinatorial
optimization and, in September 2008, I joined the applied statistics program at the University of Oxford.

After finishing my studies, I decided to fulfill one of my most important life aspirations and returned to Mexico
City to ask my girlfriend's hand in marriage. Here, I found a part time teaching position at my alma mater
(ITAM), a onetime statistics consulting assignment and finally, a full time position at Deutsche Bank's trading
desk.

It took me three months to realize that the unquantifiable uncertainty of a trader's life was not a good fit for me.
It was then when I decided to leverage on my prior consulting experience and my solid mathematical
background to pursue a position with BCG.

I joined BCG in August 2010 and have learned more than I could have possibly imagined. Working with such
talented people along with the intellectual challenge of having to address problems in such a wide variety of
industries and markets has confirmed my consulting calling. I am convinced that the BCG career path is in line
with my professional aspirations.
