harriet beecher stowe wrote books exposing the horror of slavery and they helped repeal the fugitive
slave law as planned and helped start the civil war with millions of copies sold.

This book also influenced how brittian weighed in on the civil war. feeling that supporting the south
would be a financial gain it could have also been a political disaster.

The north and south were in contest for kansas being slave or free. When it became free, the pot
brewing the civil war only boiled hotter.

Kansas errupted in to mass war doing millions in damage lecompton compromise failed and the free
soilers tried to boycott the vote. The war in kansas blended in with the full on civil war in 1861.

bully brooks beat the mess out of abolitionist and senator CHARLES SUMNER.

Buchanan became president because the nativist “know nothings” helped consume a portion of the
republican vote.

Dred scott case interrupted the fake honeymoon of buchanan and stirred the civil war pot in 1857
Dred scott didn't win as he was “property” and had no right to even bring the case to court

financial panic on 1857 was caused by gold inflating the currency, grain being overproduced and
bitterness over the Dred scott case

john brown tried to insight a slave riot and raid federal arms stockpiles, killing a few people he was
sentenced to death and became a martyr for the abolitionist cause.

The confederates soon exploited a low tariff and propagandized that seceding was the same as in 1776
fighting of an oppressive government.

Fort Sumter, was unceremoniously overrun by southern forces. This provoked the northerners to a
fighting stance. Lincoln soon requested 75000 militia men.

The potential border states of MO. KY. MD. DEL. Would double the manufacturing in the south and
severely increase the population. If the north had thrown the first punch every1 of these states would
have gone southern.

The south had a major advantage, all they had to do was defend themselves and stand firm. They
lacked the understanding of how railroads unified a section of land, with this the union was able to win
the war. The south also lacked the manufacturing to survive with it's European trade cut off. Supply of
food was unreliable and southern soldiers often went hungry because of it. The north took the main
European allies and used them to increase total manufacturing output.
