Skills & Knowledge of Cost Engineering Advertisements:

A Study Tool for AACE's Certified Cost Consultant (CCC)/

Certified Cost Engineer (CCE) Certificate of Completion

A self-paced online course offered over the Internet

AACE International, working in conjunc tion with c NI and its partner, the Virtual
University at Tec nológic o de Monterrey, Mexico, are pleased to present this series
of outstanding online courses.

Prepare for a renowned designation as a Certified Cost Consultant or Cost

Engineer.

Certification
These c ourses and the series are an exc ellent aid to prepare for the examination
to become an AACE-Certified Cost Consultant or Certified Cost Engineer, a
designation rec ognized throughout the world. The Certific ation recognizes
“spec ialists who meet a demanding set of earned value management criteria by a
rigorous examination, experienc e, education and ethic al qualific ations.”

The CCC/CCE requirements, which inc lude the Certific ation Exam apart from these c ourses, reflec t the sophistic ation of
individuals in today's earned value industry and it fairly measures their knowledge, experience and adherenc e to best
management prac tic es.

NOTE: Completing this series of c ourses or the individual exams in each c ourse, does not result in Certific ation. The series is
to prepare an individual for the rigorous CCC/CCE Exam, whic h requires the individual to apply direc tly with AACE, c omplete
the examination applic ation process, and take the AACE exam.

Certificate of Completion C orporate Sponsors:

If you c hoose not to pursue the CCC/CCE Certification exam with AACE after completing the c ourses, you will
nonetheless gain invaluable professional knowledgeable and skills by taking and c ompleting individual c ourses or by
c ompleting the series. Every individual will rec eive a Certificate of Completion for eac h course c ompleted, or for the series
of courses.

The Certific ate of Completion does not fulfill the requirements to bec ome an AACE CCC/CCE.

Why Enroll in This Program?

The CCC/CCE Certification reflec ts a c ommitment to best management prac tic es, and to a high level of skills and
knowledge in the discipline of c ost engineering, value management and professional ethic s. Although c ompleting these
c ourses does not result in Certific ation, they do prepare the individual for the CCC/CCE exam. Whether enrolling as an
individual or on behalf of an organization or company, the value added is applic able to your c areer advanc ement, as well as
to the organizational c redentials of the employer.

As the online version of the c lassroom-based Certific ation Prep Course which c an involve 2-4 days of instruc tion away from
work and home, these c ourses provide c onvenience of acc ess, save travel time and c ost and dec rease time away from the
job (produc tivity).

Gaining Access to Courses-UN & PW

Course ac cess is by pre-payment only. When payment is rec eived by AACE® and c NI a User Name (UN) and Password (PW)
will be provided within two business days (48 hours), exc luding holidays. Sec urity and tec hnical considerations require that a
unique UN-PW be issued to the partic ipant whic h then bec omes a permanent identifier for that user, regardless of how few
or how many courses an individual may enroll in with cNI through AACE. The distinct UN-PW will never be assigned to
another individual and use by an person other than the individual to whom the UN-PW is assigned will automatically result in
c anc ellation of the c ourse(s). Basic c omputer and software technic al requirements will be provided to the participant at the
time the UN-PW is issued.

Program Description
The online c ourses are offered in English and c onsist of 7 total c ourses. The c ourse c an be
taken as stand-alone c ourses, or as an entire series. If you are interested in becoming
CCC/CCE Certified it is highly rec ommended that you enroll and complete the entire
series prior to taking the c ertific ation examination.

NOTE: These c ourses do not result in Certification as an AACE CCC/CCE. For more
information regarding Certification please visit our Certification welcome page.

The Courses Include:

Cost
Due to the importanc e of the term the basic ‘anatomy’ of c osting is discussed in this course. By dissecting how c ost is
organized, c ategorized and what makes up its parts, as relates to ac tivities and/or assets, a solid knowledge foundation is
laid for the suc ceeding c ourses that build upon it. Upon c ompletion of this course, the partic ipant will be able to, without
referenc e:

Understand what makes up c ost—i.e. the basic resources (material, labor, etc .) that are needed to perform an ac tivity
or c reate an asset.
Understand the distinc tion between cost elements that are direc tly applied to an asset and those that are indirec tly
applied.
Relate the cost elements to the life cyc le of the asset: ac quisition, use, and disposal.
Use the understanding of c ost elements to further understand how c ost is measured, applied, and rec orded to arrive
at the total ac tivity and/or asset c ost.
Apply the knowledge gained to solve problems related to c ost element sourc e and definition.

Cost Estimating

Cost Estimating
Projec t suc cess c annot be supported without accurate knowledge of the cost ceilings to which the projec t must be
c ontrolled, and those c eilings are imposed by budgets derived from cost estimates. Upon completion of this c ourse,
professionals will better understand c ost estimating and will be able to, without reference:

Explain the common industry classifications of c ost estimates.

Explain common methodologies applied to prepare c ost estimates of the various c lassifications.
Relate the accuracy of estimate types to the typical definition of sc ope and viable methodologies for the types.
Explain how to apply risk analysis techniques to determine appropriate c ontingency for an estimate.

Planning and Scheduling

Planning is the “Key” to effec tive project / proc ess implementation. Planning has as its goal the disc overy of the most
effec tive way through all the issues and c onc erns of the stakeholders involved with the implementation of the project /
proc ess The Planning Team is tasked to use their knowledge, experienc e, resources and supporting tools to plan the
effec tive implementation of eac h major element of the programmed venture. The Team may be c omposed of different, highly
skilled individuals at different stages of the venture who are able to implement their particular responsibilities to the benefit
of the established goals. Planning is a synergistic process and is iterative. Planning must consider all the elements
appropriate to the effort being undertaken, consider all stakeholder’s interest and c onc erns, develop effective alternatives,
support negotiations to reac h the most effective alternative, and monitor implementation. Upon completion of this sec tion,
professionals will better understand planning and will be able to, without reference:

Set Goals and Objec tives that a planned endeavor is to meet

Gather stakeholder input and information
Determine feasible alternative plans
Choose best alternative

Communic ate the Plan

Implement the Plan
Adjust the Plan to meet new c onditions as they arise, and,
Review the effec tiveness of the Plan against attainment of objec tives.

Sc heduling is the proc ess that converts a project work plan into a road map, whic h if followed, will assure timely projec t
c ompletion. Scheduling is one of the tools used for monitoring and c ontrolling projec ts to ensure that the objec tives of cost,
quality and time are met. Sc hedules provide a baseline against whic h progress is monitored, measured, reported and
c ontrolled. Sc hedules are used to assess time impact of changes to work sc ope. Sc heduling provides a way of c ontributing
input during projec t exec ution c onc erning means, methods, techniques, sequenc es, or other c onditions affec ting the plan's
outc ome. Upon c ompletion of this section, professionals will better understand and be able to:

Convert plan into a sc hedule

Utilize sc hedules to monitor, control and report work progress
Update for progress and inc orporate c hange
Analyze the sc hedule to identify c ortic al ac tivities and work paths, and forecast future trends

Progress and Cost Control

When the participant c ompletes this course, he or she will be able to define, explain or clarify the process, purpose,
advantages, and disadvantages succ inctly in writing the following elements of progress and c ost c ont rol:

Measuring Work Progress

Cost and Schedule Performanc e
Productivity
Fixed Budget
Variable Budget
Budget Baselines
Sc hedule Baselines
Control Acc ount Baselines
Status
Analysis, Trending, and Forec asting
Suc cess Index (SI)
Variability
Incentives

Project Management
In today’s diffic ult, global business environment, it is vital that project management identify and c ontrol risks, maximize
c ost savings, minimize schedule delays, and improve ec onomic return. This only can be achieved with effec tive and
meaningful project planning and organization. Upon c ompletion of this c ourse you will be able to:

Delineate the role of the projec t manager in projec t planning.

State c ommon planning strategies.
List and explain the major c omponents of project planning.
Explain the importance of project planning.
Calc ulate installed quantities (progress) for c onstruc tion ac tivities.
Define how actual labor work hours are collec ted using time c ards.
Analyze labor c ost performance using earned value.
Analyze labor c ost performance using unit rates.
Define the three c omponents of labor costs: quantities, installed produc tion rates, and wage rates.
Analyze labor c ost performance using varianc e analysis.
List and explain the basic requirements of a c ontract.
Understand how c ontracts may become defec tive and, possibly, unenforceable.
State the types of c ontrac ts typic ally employed in c apital projec ts, their requirements, and the pot ential advantages
and disadvantages of eac h.
Relate typical projec t delivery methods to provisions of the contrac ts that are employed for eac h method.
State and explain various key c lauses in c ontracts.
Clarify what sorts of c laims may arise on c ontrac ts for c apital projec ts.
State how disputes arising under c ontracts may be resolved.

Economic Analysis
Engineering economic analysis is a technique that assists in the solution of substantial engineering problems where ec onomic
aspec ts dominate over a c onsiderable period of time. In this c ourse the participant will review this tec hnique of engineering
ec onomic analysis and upon c ompletion of this c ourse will be able to, without referenc e:

Calc ulate simple and c ompound interest rates and solve interest problems using basic single payments, uniform series,
and gradient formulas.
Calc ulate present value, future value, and equivalent uniform annual value of a cash flow series.
Determine the disc ounted rate of return of a cash flow series.
Evaluate and selec t the best alternative using present value, future value, equivalent uniform annual value, and
disc ounted rate of return.
Compare alternatives using the benefit-cost ratio.

Statistics, Probability & Risk Management

The suc cessful c ompany c ollects information so that when analyzed, good dec isions c an be made. Statistics c onstitutes
