Unit Summary
Students will be creating a short powerpoint presentation/ movie. Templates will be pre-made
by the teacher for the students to fill in with their own information. They will read a chapter-
book, and with knowledge of the story, make a book trailor that would make viewers
interested in the story, and want to go read the story- much like a trailor for a new movie.

The student will be able to use powerpoint, and express different literary elements, including
but are not limited to introduction, character, setting, and summary.
Procedures
-Have the students choose a chapter book from the library, read to completion.
-Introduce powerpoint to the class via a projection screen.
-Supply to the class (pre-saved to each computer) a file that includes a powerpoint template,
pre-made with the slides they will be using.
-Show them by example on the projector how to include pictures and text to their
presentation. As most students in 5th grade have already encountered powerpoint, this should
not be something they are seeing for the first time.
-Have each student come up with 6 slides, to include, but are not limited to an introduction,
characters and character importance, setting, summary, why others should read the book,
and conclusion.
-Upon class completion, the students will present the powerpoint presentations to the rest of
their class, and allowing time for questions/comments at the end of their speech.
**Students that complete the given task earlier than the rest of the class will then get the
opportunity to add more in-depth things to their presentations, i.e. including music. These
students will be individually shown how to add music, etc to their presentations.

Student Assessment
At the end of the project the students will be presenting their work to the rest of the class
using a projector. They will show their knowledge of the book with each slide, detailing an
introduction, characters and character importance, setting, summary, why others should read
the book, and conclusion. The presentation will provide to me knowledge of what they had
learned from the lesson. I will have a grading rubric, to insure that each student provided the
necessary information, and also that they used the proper slides.
