MANAGEMENT – REVIEW AND CRITICAL THINKING QUESTION

1. General function of managers:


a. Planning – the preparation of a firm for future business conditions.
b. Organizing – the organization of employees and other resources in a manner that
is consistent with the firm’s goals.
c. Leading – the process of influencing the habits of others to achieve a common
goal.
d. Controlling – the monitoring and evaluation of tasks.

2. Type of planning function:


a. Strategic plan – identifies a firm’s main business focus over a long-term period.
b. Tactical planning – small scale plans that are consistent with the firm strategic
plan.
c. Operational planning – establishes the methods to be used in the near future to
achieve the tactical plan.
d. Contingency planning – alternative plans developed for various possible business
condition.

3. Management - utilization of human resources and other resources in a manner that


best achieves the firm’s objectives.
Leadership - the process of influencing the habits of others to achieve a common
goal.

4. Different leadership style:


a. Autocratic – a leadership style in which the leader retains full authority for
decision making.
b. Free-rein - a leadership style in which the leader delegates much authority to
employees.
c. Participative - a leadership style in which the leaders accept some employees
input but usually use their authority to make decisions.
It would be appropriate to use participative if manager wants to consult with an
employee

5. Concept of management - utilization of human resources and other resources in a


manner that best achieves the firm’s objectives. The types of resources are:
a. Understanding the characteristic necessary for managers to be effective.
b. Assigning job responsibilities.
c. Managing the process by which product are produced.
d. Monitoring and improving the quality of the product produced.

e. Periodically evaluate the previous decision to determine whether it should be
changed.

9. How would utilized the guidelines for time management:
