Installation & Operating Instructions

INTRODUCTION
The AM500 is a simple self-contained alarm system. It protects the home
by sounding a siren whenever an intruder is detected. The system detects
intruders by sensing movement in strategic areas of the house and also by
sensing the opening of important doors and windows.

The system can be armed/disarmed with your own selected security code,
which can be changed as and when required for additional safety. All
sensors are wireless transmitters in order to avoid messy cabling.

CONTENTS
The AM500 consists of 1 x Control Panel, 2 x Wireless Movement Activated
Sensors, 2 x Wall Brackets, 1 x Wireless Window/Door Sensor, AC adaptor
and a bag of accessories.

LAYOUT GUIDELINES
The Control Panel is usually located somewhere near the main entrance
door and within 1 metre of a power point.

The Window/Door Sensor is attached to the front or rear door, or to a

window through which an intruder can enter the house.

The Movement Sensors are usually mounted high on a wall and directed
into a room requiring protection, such as a lounge room or hallway. These
sensors must not be located more than 20 metres from the Control Panel.
The maximum distance may be even less if the sensor has to transmit
through doors or walls.

Some sample layouts are suggested below for typical situations.

13. A security code must first be entered using the Control Panel keypad.
This is the code that you will use to arm and disarm the system. The
default code is ‘11’. To set the security code enter 11 followed by *. The
Control Panel will give a single beep and the green LED will start
flashing. While the LED is flashing enter your 4 digit security code
followed by *. A musical tone will indicate change of security code.

USING THE SYSTEM

1. To arm the unit enter the security code followed by the ‘KEY’ button.
Green LED indicating armed status will glow on the Control Panel.

2. You have 30 seconds to leave the house. If within the 30 seconds, the
Motion Sensors detect movement or the door/window is opened, the
LED of the sensor will blink once, the LED of the Control Panel will blink
once and there will be a single beep.

3. The green LED extinguishes after 30 seconds. The system is now ready
to detect intruders. While the Door Sensor is active continuously, the
Movement Sensor is capable of sensing only at intervals of 2 minutes
after each activation.

4. Now if motion is detected or the door/window is opened, the sensor and

Control Panel blink their LED once and beep once. After a delay of 8
seconds, the siren goes off. In case it is you who has entered the house,
you have these 8 seconds to enter your security code followed by ‘key’
to disarm the system. If the siren goes off, enter the security code
followed by ‘key’ to switch it off.

5. While armed, if the control panel is removed from the wall, the Tamper
Proof button will trigger the siren immediately.

TROUBLESHOOTING
—
Check that all house code switches in the Sensors and Control Panel
are set to the same code.
—
Doors and walls may reduce the range to less than 20 metres. Re-install
the Control Panel in a more central position to the Sensors.
—
Control Panel
Check batteries are new and installed with the correct polarity.
Check that the AC Adaptor is correctly fitted and switched on.
Check that the personal security code has been correctly programmed
in.
—
Movement Activated Sensor
Check that the battery has been installed correctly.
Check that the Movement Activated Sensor is not more than 20 metres
from the Control Panel. If the Movement Activated Sensor is mounted
near metal objects, it may have to be relocated.
Arm the Control Panel and walk in front of the Movement Activated
Sensor. The LED on the Movement Activated Sensor and the Control
Panel should light momentarily. After two minutes the unit will again be
ready to sense, reset alarm and test again.
—
Window/Door Sensor
Check that the battery has been installed correctly.
Check that the gap between parts is not more than 12mm.
Check that the Window/Door Sensor is not more than 20 metres from
the Control Panel. If the Window/Door Sensor is mounted near metal
objects, if any have to be relocated.
Arm the Control Panel and open the secured door. The LED on
the Window/Door sensor and control panel should light momentarily.
—
AM553 Compact Extension Siren (not included)
Check that the 4 x 'AA' batteries have been installed correctly.
Check wiring has been correctly connected and damage to cable has
not occurred during installation.

ACCESSORIES
More Movement Activated Sensors and Wireless Window/Door Sensors
can be added to the AM500 system if desired to provide additional
security.
—
AM551 Movement Activated Sensor
—
AM552 Wireless Window/Door Sensor
Installation of the Movement Activated Sensors and Window/Door
Sensors is identical as described in these instructions.
—
AM553 Extension Siren
Installation of the external siren:
- Connect the wires of the Siren to the 'EXT SIREN' terminals inside
the Control Panel wiring compartment.(Red wire to +ve and Black
wire to –ve).
- Run the cable to another room or even outside under eaves and
install 4 x 'AA' batteries inside the Extension Siren.
The Extension Siren will now sound when the Control Panel Siren
sounds.

IMPORTANT
DO NOT drop any alarm components.
—
DO NOT install the Movement Activated Sensors close to an internal
—
heating or cooling source.
DO NOT install the alarm in a position where direct sunlight may occur.
—
DO NOT use rechargeable batteries in any alarm components.
—
Use alkaline type batteries only. DO NOT mix different types of batteries
—
in the Control Panel or Extension Alarm.
—
The Alarm components must be kept indoors. The Compact Extension
Siren may be fitted outdoors under eaves and out of weather.
—
We recommend alkaline batteries for best performance.
