PROFESSIONAL HISTORY:

Mr. Ebbing is an Adjunct Professor teaching architectural acoustics at Rensselear Polytechnic

Institute Troy, NY and at Syracuse University Syracuse, NY. He is also President of Ebbing
Acoustics, which does consulting work in Acoustics.

He retired from Carrier Corp in September 1999 where he was a Senior Staff Acoustical
Engineer. He served 14 years as an in-house acoustical consultant on acoustical application of
HVAC products.

Previous to this he was Manager of Advanced Development for Commercial Products for 2
years.

He served for 4 years as Manager Air Terminals Engineering and has first hand experience in
the nuances of acoustical testing and rating of products.

Mr. Ebbing has also served in the Research Division's Acoustics and Noise Control Group for 11
years, where he directed the group’s efforts and associated laboratories . During this time he
gained extensive field experience with all of Carrier's HVAC products.

For many years he has been actively interested in developing and applying practical acoustical
measurement and estimation technology. He has designed and qualified most of the Carrier
acoustical measurement facilities including anechoic, reverberation, and in-duct test facilities.
Early in his career he served as chairman of ASHRAE STD 36-72 Standards Committee, which
later was folded into current ANSI/ISO Reverberation Room Test Standards. He provided much
of the technical input for ARI STDS 575(Chiller Measurement) and was Chairman of ARI 885
(Air Terminal Acoustical Application).
Throughout his career, Mr. Ebbing has been active in providing Acoustical Training Courses
both inside and outside of Carrier Corporation. He has taught applied acoustics courses at RPI,
Syracuse University, Union College, and Penn State and to Carrier Distribution .

He has been an active member of ASHRAE TC 2.6 since 1967 and has served actively on the
ARI Technical Committee on Sound for the same period of time. In the past 26 years he has
made extensive contributions to both ARI and ASHRAE in the research, planning and standards
areas. He made major contributions to all of the existing ARI standards. In ASHRAE he has
served as Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee where he has helped to set long
range directions and has helped to draft many of the Requests For Proposals that have been
approved for funding by ASHRAE. His 1978 ASHRAE Paper provided the technical basis for
evaluation of the rumble descriptor in the RC rating method and helped to draw ASHRAE
attention to the importance of low frequency HVAC noise problems.
