Discipline to me

Discipline is not a degree that one can obtain completing

certain semesters from a university or a commodity we can purchase in
a shop. Definitely, an undisciplined person in tattered jeans with one leg
short, a heavy metal chain hanging in the neck and hair made strait and
colorful with chemical may not substitute his/her discipline. I often see
some in shabby dress, head shaved with an unshaved vertical band at
the top, few pieces and rings of metal pierced in the ear, finger nails
growing inches, a purse puffed by paper inside in the back pocket tied
to a chain, spread the mixed smell of perfume or cigarette or alcohol or
of other chemical; perhaps of narcotics. Such people, when they stand
in front of a group of other similar of people and utter filthy words or
drive a bike at high speed; also to me, isn’t the way of a disciplined
person.

Richard L. Kempen said, “Without discipline there is

nothing to be proud of”. At home sometimes parents scold us saying
that we lack discipline and try to correct us but we mock at it, ignore
and walk away as the pride makes us feel that we are the ready made
person perfect every where. Same happens in the school also, when our
teachers suggest us to wear proper uniform, scold for misbehaving in
assembly line, investigate the reason for not completing our home task
in time and such other undesirable activities related to the issues of
discipline. In response to this we frown at them with anger and project
our pride instead of discipline. Everybody says Great people like
Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton and the great leaders were
disciplined. It is true that they were disciplined as the discipline itself
made them great but they weren’t disciplined later. In a society we
often perceive activities like robbery, rape cases, quarrel and
corruption. All these are the acts of an indiscipline person. An
undisciplined person becomes a problem in a family, in a society, in an
organization, in a system of governance and in public places proving
oneself a burden every where. A few undisciplined individuals in a
society create a lot of chaos, confusion, misunderstanding and war. The
undisciplined head of a family can’t make other members disciplined
and in long run the family suffers. In the same way, undisciplined
teacher misguides the students, undisciplined head of an organization
leads to failure, undisciplined leaders can’t make a nation to prosper
and no healthy relation can be established in a family if some members
are undisciplined.

In a person indiscipline starts early in young age due to lack of

commitment and purpose in ones life. Nowadays many of the students
become indiscipline when they take part in politics. The college students
get enlisted in some political parties and they start to influence the
younger school students for their support. Such students take part in
street procession, shout slogans and form gangs and lose a good deal of
precious study time. This creates differences among themselves which
leads to confrontation and quarrel resulting indiscipline in a large
section of young population.

According to me, discipline refers to the training that one gives

oneself to accomplish a certain task or to adopt a particular pattern of
behavior, even if one would rather be doing something else. In young
children discipline is the process of teaching to behave appropriately in
different circumstances. This is often done with punishment, either
physical or involving loss of property or privileges. Discipline is a self
training that we practice within ourselves. Discipline doesn’t mean
restrictions in people’s freedom but it is a habit to obey and observe
certain set of rules everywhere in all our activities. We need discipline at
home, at school, in the playground and in the office. For instance,
discipline is needed to win the hearts of other people while running a
business, appealing for a job, to keep marriage proposal, to be liked by
teachers in the school and to become a worthy member of a family and a
society at large. Discipline makes us respect our elders, love our juniors.
Discipline is a basic need of our life. A disciplined person is appreciated
and loved by everybody. Discipline is the sign of civilization.

As self training, discipline can be learnt from home, from

school, from public places, from the way a person talks and behaves
with us and at large from every step of our life. Discipline is needed to
achieve our goal in future. An undisciplined person never succeeds in
life. Finally I believe that no one can reach the destination without
discipline. I and everybody need discipline to succeed. Discipline is
always needed to me in every place, everything I do and every moment
of my life. .
