Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy


From cricket to Politics, from MLA, Chief Whip & Speaker to Chief Minister, his was a
steady journey of success. The young and dynamic Congress leader, Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy
took over as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at a most crucial juncture. He was given the
onerous responsibility by the Party High Command to lead the destiny of the most progressive
State--Andhra Pradesh with high expectations. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was sworn in as the
16th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on 25-11-2010. Mr.
Kiran Kumar Reddy brings with him lots of freshness, dynamism and promise of performance.

Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy who is the 16th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh is a four-time
Member of Legislative Assembly. He was Govt. Chief Whip for five years (2004-09) and then
Speaker of the Assembly for one and half turbulent years (May, 2009 to November, 2010. Mr.
Reddy handled both the jobs of Chief Whip and Speaker to best of his ability and to the
satisfaction of all sections. He has handled the mass resignation of MLAs in the Assembly deftly
and most efficiently.

Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was born on 13th September, 1960 at Hyderabad. He had his
schooling in the Hyderabad Public School at Begumpet, Hyderabad. He did his Intermediate
Course from St. Joseph's Junior College, Hyderabad. Later Mr. Reddy did his graduation in
Commerce from Nizam College and LL.B from Osmania University.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy has the right political lineage as his father late Mr. Nallari Amarnath
Reddy was a strong and respected politician from Chittoor and also a close aide of former Prime
Ministers, late Smt. Indira Gandhi and late Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao. Late Mr. Nallari Amarnath
Reddy was a minister in Congress cabinet from 1978 to 1982. Mr.Kiran Kumar Reddy was first
elected to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Vayalpadu constituency of Chittoor
district in 1989.

During the rule of the late chief minister Dr.Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy from 2004 to 2009,
Kiran Kumar Reddy functioned as Government Chief Whip with cabinet minister's status. A
strong integrationist, Reddy impressed the High Command by his deft handling of the crisis
caused after 143 MLAs of all political parties resigned after the Centre’s announcement on
Telangana issue on December 9th, 2009. He served as member of the Public Undertakings
Committee and Assurances Committee.

Mr. Reddy, as Speaker of the 13th Andhra Pradesh Assembly was very firm in dealing with
the proceedings in the House. He is known as stickler to rules and never tolerates indiscipline
and laziness.

Though represented Pileru constituency in Chittoor district of the Rayalaseema region, Mr.
Kiran Kumar is a Hyderabadi to the core, having born and studied throughout in Hyderabad. As
a cricketer, he came close to reckoning for India test cap as a wicket keeper batsman. He also
showed early signs of political leadership, by getting elected as President of Nizam College in
the early 1980s.

As the 16th CM of the State, which is now in its 54th year, Mr. Kiran Kumar, is perhaps the
youngest among the Cong (I) leaders to don the mantle. After late Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy,
late Sri Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy, Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu and late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara
Reddy, Mr.Kiran Kumar Reddy is another leader from the backward Rayalaseema region to rise
to the high position in the State.

Mr. Kiran Kumar is also familiar with the industry and business community in the State and
he has experience in the hospitality sector and a good circle of friends in various industries based
in Hyderabad. A family man, he is known to keep himself to a close group of friends.

His wife is Smt. N Radhika Reddy, son N. Nikihlesh Reddy and daughter N.Niharika Reddy.
