Summary:

Students will be introduced to the I Spy books by Jean Marzollo and Walter
Wick, read biographies about the author and illustrator, pick one or two I Spy
books to read, and create and describe their own I Spy pictures and riddles
online.

Objectives:
Students will read one or two I Spy books.

Students will understand procedures for computer use, site resources, and
printing resources in the library.

Students will access and use information in an effective and creative way.

Students will demonstrate the ability to understand, locate, and use the
following web sites to learn about the I Spy creators, play games/puzzles, and
create their own I Spy pictures and riddles.

Students will appreciate literature and creative expression.

Students will create and problem solve their own I Spy riddles and pictures to
share with the class.

Students will participate in groups to share their created I Spy pictures and
riddles.
Assessments:

A teacher created rubric will be used to assess student work.


Criteria to be assessed: The students ability to navigate the web, locate the
web sites, create their own mini versions of an I Spy picture riddle and present
their creation to the class. A total 10 points will be used in the assessment.

Procedures

Week 1: Talk about all the I Spy books by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick. Read a short
summary about each book (15 minutes). View the I Spy Video that will show students
how Jean Marzollo creates her riddles and Walter Wick creates the pictures to go with her
riddles (15 minutes). Let students check out I Spy books to read at home.

Week 2: Students will pair up at computers and use the above URLs to read biographies
about Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick (10 minutes). Students will visit the Welcome to
the I Spy Web Site, play games/puzzles, and/or write a riddle online (20 minutes).

Week 3: Students will visit the I Spy Web Site to view other student’s picture riddles and
create their own picture riddle online (20 minutes). Students will share their printed
picture riddle with students at their table (10 minutes). Picture riddles will be turned in to
me after class. I will grade them using a teacher-created rubric.
Other/Comments:

Students will be required to have an Internet Usage Card in order to


participate in the 3 week lessons.
