JOB DESCRIPTION
Hours:
1. To assist in the effective and efficient operation of the School’s network, ICT
equipment and systems including completing routine maintenance of School ICT
systems, backing up systems, cleaning, monitoring computer equipment and
adhering to the network security processes.
2. To provide assistance to staff and pupils in using the School’s ICT facilities, and
to prepare facilities for class use, sharing expertise and where necessary,
providing instruction sheets.
3. To assist in regular audits stock takes of the school’s ICT hardware and software
at the direction of the ICT Co-ordinator/ICT Technician. To report any
irregularities to the ICT Co-ordinator.
4. To oversee the use of ICT facilities during the pupils’ breaks as directed by the
ICT Co-ordinator.
6. To advise teaching staff and pupils on how to use the Internet, including
promotion of the School’s website, in accordance with the School Internet
Policy.
8. To monitor the use of copyright material, including ICT software and to maintain
the copyright records.
13. To undertake other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as required.
Optional Clause:
1. To provide an ICT diagnostic and repair service (as qualified) and to liaise with
outside agencies, co-ordinating arrangements to ensure prompt and successful
solutions to ICT problems.

This section considers the extent to which the job requires innovative and
imagination responses to issues and the resolution of problems.
Please give examples of creativity and innovation which the job requires and for

for example: caring and counselling; design and application of information
technology systems; creation and planning of menus; repair and maintenance of

Decisions – Discretion
This section considers the requirement of the post holder to make decisions or
recommendations made as part of the post holder’s remit (as defined in the job
description).
On what issues does the post holder go to his / her manager for advice / guidance /
a decision?
The post holder seeks advice from the ICT Network Manager/Headteacher with
regard to guidance on daily activities, work programme, repair work to be
undertaken, direction to supervise ICT suites, the post holder goes to his/her
manager to inform them of any ICT related problems and concerns. The ICT

Network Manager (where this post exists) is available to the post holder to
provide ICT specialist advice.
Describe what advice is available from the post holder’s manager or other sources
e.g. rules, guidelines, manuals. Is the advice available all the time, daily, weekly,
etc. and is your manager at another location. If so where?
Further advice is available from the Network Manager/Headteacher or Head of
Department with responsibility for ICT with regard to the ICT requirements of
the school, how to resolve technical breakdowns, repairs etc, reponses to
technical queries from users. More specialist advice is available from the
recognised and approved ICT consultants and agencies, or the relevant
departments from Cornwall County Council.
Decisions – Consequences
Please identify the major consequences of any decisions the post holder makes for
clients, the public, other staff or the service:
The decisions made by the post holder are limited and their work is mainly
supervised. Their decisions will relate to the provision of readily available
help and support in the use of IC resources, provision of useful and accurate
information sheets and well presented teaching materials.
What are the implications if the post holder gets something wrong?
The majority of the post holder's work is authorised by the Network Manager,
Headteacher or Head of Department with responsibility for ICT. Therefore,
implications of errors are minimised. Decisions made by the post holder
would relate to basic technical repairs to equipment, advice to users and
content of instruction sheets. The implications of wrong decisions of this
nature would include failure to undertake basic repairs of ICT equipment,
incorrect advice provided verbally and within instruction sheets.
How quickly would any error be rectified and how? Who would the post holder
inform?
In such circumstances as outlined above, the Network Manager, Headteacher
or Head of Department with responsibility for ICT would be informed. The
majority of such work is supervised and checked prior to being used (eg:
information sheets, repair work) and subsequently, errors would be identified
before any implications arise. Where repairs had not been completed
properly, these would be rectified by another member of the ICT team/Network
Manager, and explained to the post holder. Information sheets would be
checked and amended before being passed back to the teacher.

The post holder faces minimal risk to personal health and safety in their work.
If the post holder works with the public or clients, can s/he call upon the immediate
support of other members of staff?
The post holder will encounter members of the public, visitors to the school,
contract staff, students etc during the course of their duties. However this
poses minimal risk to their personal safety. The Headteacher, Heads of
Department or other teachers are available to the post holder for support.

The post holder is required to have a minimum of 6 month's work experience
of working and/or providing technical support in ICT systems. Ideally, the
post holder would have relevant work experience from within a school/college
environment.
