This documentation outlines the installation of the Latoyce (release candidate 1)

visual style for Windows Vista. For a successful installation, certain system files will
have to be patched, namely uxtheme.dll, shsvcs.dll, and themeui.dll, all contained
within the Windows - System32 folder. The patched variants of these files are not
included in this package, but can be easily obtained from the internet. This is still a
work in progress.

Installation
1. Visual Style
Extract the downloaded archive and copy the contents of the ‘Theme’ folder into
your Windows – Resources – Themes folder.

2. Back – Forward Buttons (Explorer & IE) and Windows Media Player
Mods

(1) Navigate into the Windows – System32 folder, find and take ownership of
these three .dll’s --- browseui.dll, ieframe.dll, and wmploc.dll. Make a
backup copy of each file (an example would be to rename of the original file
by adding a ‘.bac’ extension – browseui.dll to browseui.dll.bac).

(2) Copy the contents of the Back - Forward Button Mods ( Explore & IE)
and Windows Media Player Mod folders into the System32 folder, then
restart explorer by logging off, then back on again to initialize and register
the copied dll’s.

If you followed the above outlined steps, then installation is complete.

Applying the Visual Style

Right click your desktop and choose ‘Personalize’, then ‘Themes’. Latoyce should
appear under your themes menu. Apply it .

Optimization
After initial application of the theme, size your windows accordingly so that the
metallic portions will not appear pixilated.

Limitations of This Project

Taskbar & Quick launch Area

The taskbar was designed to accommodate the default number of icons (3) that
Windows VistaTM displays in the quick launch area. Any number above that will have
the icons falling outside of the metallic portion of the taskbar, since WindowsTM does
not resize the taskbar with an increase in the amount of visible icons.

Graphical Designs
Windows VistaTM is real picky with the graphics that make up its GUI, and does not
lend well to drastic changes in its design. Latoyce TM RC1 uses graphic designs that
do not follow Vista’s conventional visual style, and thus will require some amount of
initial adjustments to achieve the desired user experience, e.g., the resizing opened
windows so that the metallic portions don’t appear pixilated.

Testing Platform

LatoyceTM RC1 was tested on and optimized for PCs with a display of resolution
1440x900 (widescreen). Its appearance is still unknown on screens of lesser or
greater aspect ratios.
