MATHEMATICS 2

I. Objective:
1. Describe shape according to the number of corners.
2. Cut shapes with corners
3. Find enjoyment in forming figure cut-outs of shapes.

II. Subject Matter:


Describing Shapes according to the number of corners.

Materials: Concrete Objects, art paper, pair of scissor

III. Procedure:

2. Drill: Name the following shapes.

3. Review: How many sides do the following have:
1. triangle (3 sides) 2. rectangle (4 sides) 3. square ( 4 sides)
4. Motivation:
Children, I have shapes here on the board. We are going to build
something which is very important to us, in here we can find a father, a
mother and children. I’ll do the first step. Anybody who can come and
pick one shape and attach it to the first shape? Very good, next?.....
So what do we have now? What are the shapes do we need to form a
house? (triangle square and rectangle) Is the house very important to us?
Why? (Because we stay together) Do you love your family? (Yes)
5. Presentation:
Children, I have objects here. What are they? Try to observe carefully.
Who can group the objects into two, according to objects with no corners
and objects with corners?
Do you think she did it correctly?
What objects have corners?
What objects have no corners?

A. I have another, these are cut-out of different objects, who can come in
front and get one to paste it where it belongs.

B. Group Activities:

Group I. Cut squares, rectangles and triangles and paste them on the
figure to complete your hangman.
Group II Cut squares, rectangles and triangles and paste them on the
figure to complete your castle.
Group III Cut squares, rectangles and triangles and paste them on the
figure to complete your robot.
C. Generalization:
How do we describe Shapes? (We can describe shapes by counting the
number of corners.)

I. Objectives:
At the end of 60 min. teaching the learners are expected to do the following with at least
75% level of accuracy:

a. Differentiate between active and inactive volcanoes;


b. Construct an active volcano and inactive volcano;
c. Participate actively in class discussions.

Value: Participate actively.

II. Subject Matter: Active and Inactive Volcanoes

Materials: Philippine Map, Pointer, Chart of active volcanoes, bottles, used
newspaper\ paper wet, baking soda, starch, food coloring, vinegar,
water, dish washing liquid.

III. Procedure:
A. Preparation:

1. Review: Arrange the puzzle on the board. (Game)

Example:

What is a Volcano? (An opening in the Earth’s crust where magma flows.)

2. Motivation:
Have you seen a real volcano? (Yes/ No)
Are you familiar with the names of the same volcanoes here in the
Philippines? (Yes).
Can you name them? (Mayon Volcano, Taal Volcano, Mt. Pinatubo,
etc.)

B. Presentation: Integration with HKS.

a. Show a Philippine Map and charts of Active and Inactive Volcanoes. (Selected
pupils will act as reporters and a personnel of PAGASA).
Reporting about: “Circumpacific Belt of Pacific Ring of Fire” and “Active
and Inactive Volcanoes”.
b. Discussions:

1. What places in the Philippines within the area of Circumpacific Belt or the
Pacific Ring of Fire? (Legaspi, Albay, Batangas, Negros Occidental,
Sorsogon, Cotabato, Babuyan Island, Zambales, etc.)
2. Can you name some active volcanoes? (Mt. Pinatubo, Mt. Mayon, and Taal
Volcano)
3. How will you know if the volcano is active? (If the volcano send out fire,
smoke and molten rocks.)
4. Can you name inactive volcanoes? (Mt. Apo, Mt. Arayat, and Mt. Makiling
are some of the inactive volcanoes in the Philippines).
5. How will you know if the volcano is inactive? (Inactive volcanoes are those
which have not erupted within 600 years.)
6. Why are these volcanoes active in these places? (These places located at the
Pacific plate where earthquake and volcanic eruptions usually occur due to
tectonic movement or the continuing movement of the earth’s crust.)

C. Generalization:

What are the differences between active and inactive volcanoes? (Volcanoes
that send out fire, smoke and molten rocks are called active volcanoes. Inactive
volcanoes are those which have no eruptions recorded.)

D. Application: Integration of Character Ed.

A. Did you participate actively during class discussions? (Yes/ No).


B. Group Activities:
Blue and Red Team: Construct an active volcano.
Green and Yellow Team: Construct an inactive volcano.

IV. Evaluation: Essay

A. Differentiate between active and inactive volcanoes.

B. Group the following volcanoes , as to active and inactive volcanoes to their


correct column. Choose your answer from the box below.

V. Assignment:
List down 5 active volcanoes and 5 inactive volcanoes from other countries.
How to construct an Active Volcano

Materials:
Wet used paper or newspaper
¼ cup water
¼ cup vinegar
3 Tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, several drops of red food coloring
¼ cup baking soda, tall thin bottle.

What to do:
1. Place the tall thin bottle mouth up on the ground. Pile the wet papers around
until you have formed a “Volcano” with a hole at the top.
2. Mix the soda, water, food coloring and dishwashing liquid. Pour the mixture
in the bottle.
3. Carefully and quickly pour the vinegar into the bottle. Observe what happens.

How to construct an Inactive Volcano

Materials:
1. Wet used paper or newspaper, Paste/ gawgaw.
2. Bottle.

Procedure:
1. Place the tall thin bottle mouth up on the ground. Pile wet used paper or
newspaper around until you have formed a volcano without a hole at the top.
