Teacher’s Training: Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Curriculum

July 10 – 14, 2006

Hotel Kimberly, Manila

The five (5) day seminar was sponsored by the Consuelo Foundation and Foundation for
Adolescent Development, Inc. (FAD) – is a non-stock, not for profit and non-government
organization established in 1988. Their programs and services are designed to help
adolescents and young adults become emotionally secure, socially responsible and self-
reliant individuals.

Participants came from various organizations who are CF-trained Skills for life (SFL)
teachers currently conducting SFL classes to target groups and or has direct touch base
with the prospective young people trainees either through teaching or regular group

Topics discussed are the following; with Desensitization Exercises:

• Reproductive Health: an overview
• Adolescence as a period of transition
• Understanding the nature of human sexuality
• Significant relationship of adolescents
• Pornography
• Sexually transmitted Infections (STI)
• The threat of HIV/AIDS
• Responsible parenthood and Family planning
• Counseling the Adolescent
• Violence against Women and Children

On the last 2 days demonstration was done of how to conduct the lessons and finally the
Practicum (presentation and critiquing).

Also, one of the programs of FAD is the Email-A-Friend (EMAF) the first on-line
counseling program in the country. It offers free, anonymous, professional and
confidential on-line counseling on teen issues such as boy-girl relationships, parent-child
concerns, self-esteem issues, pregnancy, career, STI, and more. You can visit

Since our company is not under the CF and the representation is not CF-trained SFL
teachers, I think I have the freedom to choose my Skills for life teaching method which is
not under the 31, 21, 11, lessons. I rather choose topics that are shorter in duration.
I will be preparing lesson slides with topics includes as above, and then I will conduct a
class first to selected CVX employees as my training ground and also for their evaluation
or comments. If it is OK, then I will have a summer Reproductive Health classes with
their dependents/adolescents only – a 2 day lecture/activity maybe?

Since community is also a target, the Chevron Tiwi Asset affairs and the Tiwi
Community College should work side by side for the common goal. I, as one of their
