Three Witnesses that Jesus is the Christ

By R.S. Neaville

1. The Law ( righteousness)

2. Prophets (eyewitnesses, The scriptures)

3. The Resurrection from the dead ( The empty tomb and the Spirit of Christ in you)

First Witness: The Law (righteousness)

The first witness: The Law testified to the coming of a righteous man, for the Law could only be
kept, and thus fulfilled by a righteous man. All in Adam were in sin and thus unable to keep it. All
under the Law were condemned by it. The Law is The righteousness that had to be fulfilled in the
Messiah, the only man to please God. The Law judged Jesus to be that man.

We all, Jew and Gentile were in sin, and we could not escape. We could not be righteous of
ourselves.

1 Timothy 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the
lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for
murderers offathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

Romans 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before
proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the
transgression of the law.

Jesus is the only answer to sin and so the law:

Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of
Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight:
for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Jesus did not sin, and thus fulfilled the Law:

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of
our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
We know we were sinners by the Law. Jesus fulfilled the Law. He is the only man the Law
Judged as righteous. He fulfilled the law and thus all righteousness. The Law named Jesus as the
Lamb with out blemish, the man without sin. The perfect sacrifice.

Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come
to destroy, but to fulfil.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for
us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of
a woman, made under the law,

Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption
of sons.

Colossians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be
made the righteousness of God in him.

Jesus redeemed us by laying down his life as a man the Law judged to be innocent , thus free
those who believe from the Law’s penalty and curse:

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith
of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the
faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be
justified.

So the Law shows Jesus to be the Lamb, the clean one , the perfect sacrifice.. fulfilling his
purpose in coming to this world in the form of a man.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of
God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments
contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Romans 8:3-4 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit.
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look
for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of
our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Jesus showed throughout his life that he was the fulfillment of the Law. He was judged
righteous according to the law. The proof is that he rose again and his spirit is given to his
believers. This could not have been if he had sinned. Death is the penalty of the Law. Jesus laid
his life down to take our place in death. But because he was innocent , death could not hold him.

Second Witness: The Prophets (Eye witnesses; the scriptures)

The second witness: Testimony about Christ from his followers and God himself (as related
through their testimony). How he fulfilled prophecy and scripture, and was testified to from the
Father through the voice of God, and miracles and works.

1 John1:1-3 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have
seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word
of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto
you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we
have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and
truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Matthew 4:13-17 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of
him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to
me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to
fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up
straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven,
saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased

Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I
was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses,
and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Matthew 17:1-6 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and
bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his
face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there
appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto
Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one
for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud
overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on
their face, and were sore afraid.
You the strength of the apostles testimony. It is what they saw, heard, and experienced
personally of the scriptures fulfillment in Jesus as messiah, as the Lamb of God. It wasn’t just the
words of the prophetsin ink on parchment. He was real and living and with them. The prophets who
testified that he would come never got to experience it.

Matthew 13:17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have
desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things
which ye hear, and have not heard them.

And because the Apostles did experience it, and testified to that experience as eyewitnesses,
we have the words of the prophets of old made more sure! They prove it wasnt just clever stories
invented by their fathers. They testify to the scriptures coming alive and walking in the form of
Jesus, the only begotten son of God.

2 Peter 1:11-21 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of
these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it
meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath
shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these
things always in remembrance. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when
we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were
eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when
there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I
am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him
in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that
ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day
star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God
spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The Third Witness: The Resurrection of Jesus and his Spirit in you.

Because Jesus has over come death we have the fulfillment of both the Law and the prophets,
as testified by eyewitness testimony. The fact that He lives means to us he is willing and able to
bring us what he has promised..the resurrection from the dead. His empty tomb witnesses to us
still today of his power and origin…and the promise in our blessed hope. His Spirit that dwells in
us testifies to the fact of his resurrection .

Matthew 28:1-10 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the
week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there
was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and
rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and
his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead
men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye
seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the
place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the
dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told
you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to
bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them,
saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. Then said
Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall
they see me.

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of
them that slept.

Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the
faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

1 Corinthians 6:14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his
own power.

The Resurrection declares Jesus’s identity

Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of
holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and
believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I
will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise
him up at the last day.

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Can we trust the testimony of the apostles and the empty tomb? If he dwells in your heart yes
you can..You can know the truth! That deposit of his spirit in you is an assurance of the
resurrection!

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved,
we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in
this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If
so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do
groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality
might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God,
who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
Galatians.4:4-7 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made
of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might
receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his
Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son;
and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Eph.1:11-14 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according

to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we
should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after
that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye
believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

The Spirit inside us testifies with the scriptures outside us. We are in union with the testimony of
our fellow heirs . Jesus has ample witnesses to his truth.
