2011 is Swinburne’s one hundred and third
year of providing real life education and
research programs aimed at preparing
its graduates to get good jobs and to be
able to make an immediate impact on the
economy and the culture wherever they
live. Swinburne is determined to make the
next hundred years even better than the
first.
The year 2008 saw a major development
in the expansion of the Sarawak campus,
giving Swinburne world-class, state-of-the-
art classrooms, laboratories and computer
facilities, as well as recreational facilities.
Everything is now in place for working,
studying and enjoying student life. Stage
2 and 3 developments are already being
planned on related sites – Swinburne
Sarawak plans continuous growth and
development and is committed to this part
of the world for the long term.
As a Branch Campus University in
Malaysia, Swinburne offers identical
degrees to those offered in Australia and

A flexible degree structure
At Swinburne, we’ve developed a flexible
degree structure that offers an incredible
range of program options. Our three-year
undergraduate degrees* require you to
complete a professional major with either a
co-major or two minors. This gives you the
flexibility to tailor your degree according
to your personal ambitions, interests and
abilities. You can:

The Swinburne Sarawak academic
calendar consists of two long terms of
12 contact weeks each and a short term
of six contact weeks. You may choose to
commence your study at any of the terms
in March, July or September. Please note
that some programs may not be offered at
these terms.
Degree students are able to take up to
10 units of study in a full-load academic
year, compared to eight in a conventional
two-term academic year. The University
also gives you the flexibility to tailor your
study load in each term according to your
personal ambition and abilities.
The number of units of study and the credit
hours you are required to complete in the
respective programs remains the same as
those offered by Swinburne Australia.

Practical learning to prepare you
Lectures and books have an important
place in education. But at Swinburne
Sarawak we believe the best lessons
also come from experience, which is
why we have developed the Swinburne
Professional Learning Model (PLM) for our
undergraduate degrees. PLM provides
undergraduates with a structured range
of development opportunities including
career assistance embedded within the
curriculum, complementary Elective Plus
studies designed to diversify career profile,
international study and work-integrated
learning opportunities, options to
customise speed of study in accordance to
personal commitments and the completion
of industry-oriented final-year projects

career planning unit called Careers in the
Curriculum. Normally taken in the second
year of your undergraduate degree, it gives
you a clear idea of your career direction
and the job options you have available.
The unit also provides invaluable practical

preparation and interviews. At the end of
the unit you will have a personal study

Foundation studies and Diploma programs

The Foundation and Diploma programs
at Swinburne Sarawak are designed to
be pathways for students who have not
yet achieved the requirements for direct
entry into bachelor degree programs.
Foundation programs
Foundation programs are specifically
designed for students to help you prepare
– and meet the entry requirements –
for first year of your bachelor degree.
The cost-effective one-year foundation
program develops your competence
in English, Mathematics, Information
Technology and several other fundamental
subjects.
Diploma programs
Swinburne Sarawak’s diploma programs
are tailored as an alternative pathway to
a bachelor degree for students who do
not meet the requirements for entry into
foundation programs.
The 3-year program is conducted on
campus, enabling you to experience
a real university learning environment.
Two diploma programs are available at

Students who have graduated from these
programs will be eligible for exemptions
in the bachelor degree program of their
choice. Exemptions vary for each degree
program.
While the diploma programs are designed
as an alternative pathway for entry into

program, they are also recognised as
a qualification for career advancement.
Students who have completed the diploma
program can opt to start a career in the

This program is divided into Basic

grammar. Each level runs for 10 weeks
and comprises 200 hours of learning in the

On-campus accommodation
Two fully furnished on-campus hostels are
available to students. Divided into male
and female blocks, they are designed to
accommodate more than 400 students.
Rooms are available for single occupancy
or twin-sharing. Furnishings include bed,
study table, chair and wardrobe. Wall fans
are a standard feature while selected units
are equipped with air-conditioning.
Besides Wi-Fi access, amenities include
common reading/visitor areas, kitchen and
dining rooms as well as laundry and drying
areas.

class contact hours per week in private study,

Applying for Credit
What is Credit?
Credit transfer is the granting of recognition for
previous study and/or experience, in the form of
exemption from certain program/program
requirements. This term tends to be used
interchangeably in Australian universities with the
terms Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL),
exemptions, advanced standing and/or status.
How to apply for Credit
Submit a program or unit (subject) syllabus with
your application for admission. Your application will
be assessed and if successful you will receive
advice in your letter of offer. If the Credit is
conditional, you must provide evidence that you
have satisfactorily met the condition(s) prior to or at
the time of accepting your offer. The program
duration shown in your letter of offer will reflect the
amount of Credit granted.
If you do not request assessment of Credit when
you submit your application, you must normally
request assessment within two weeks of
commencing the program. Applications made after
this time may not be approved. All applications
must be approved by your faculty or school.
Accepting your offer
If your application is successful, you will be made
an offer. The offer will include:

Applying for your Z

ZZ Once the required documents and payment have
been received, they will be forwarded to the
Malaysia Immigration Department for your
student visa application. This process takes
about four to six weeks.
ZZ Swinburne Sarawak will email and courier you
the Student Visa Letter when your student visa is
approved.
ZZ You are then to proceed to the Malaysian
Embassy or consulate indicated on the student
visa approval letter with your passport to obtain
a Single Entry Visa, and make your travel
arrangements.
ZZ After arriving at Swinburne Sarawak, you will be
required to undergo a medical test (no additional
charge)
ZZ Your passport and medical result will then be
submitted to the Malaysian Immigration
Department for endorsing the Student Pass into
a Multiple Entry Student Pass. This process takes
about three to four weeks.If you hold a current
student visa, Swinburne
will send your CoE to you upon receipt of your
program acceptance.
